blooming garlic chives

Just so that you know, we had red-winged blackbirds build a nest in our viburnum in the back yard. Anytime any person got within 15 feet, you got dive-bombed. So close you could feel the wind from their wings. Hate those birds!!

I don't recall ever having a triple like this. What is interesting to me is that the iris in this area are getting less than 2 hours of direct sun each day.

Jim....:0) "Just so that you know".......that bird was attacking us. DH got a shot of him on my hat.....thought it was hilarious. We had to cross the foot bridge near his nest or we would NEVER have bothered him.

We get those red-winged blackbirds twice a year, arriving by the 100's and staying for several months just stripping all of the feeders, depriving all of our regular birds of the food intended for them. I hate those birds too. It's like watching the movie "The Birds".

New bird feeder to keep the squirrels out but also blocks the large birds who would chase off the small birds. Now the small birds get all the food they want. We get a huge flock of 20 or more of tiny little birds. So fun to watch.

I would love to have acorn woodpeckers visit! Acorn woodpeckers live in our area, but the house is too far away from their haunts (the same for the blackbirds). I would probably go the peanut feeder route for them. Occasionally we get visits from Nuttall's woodpeckers.

Another peanut lover, the scrub jay. Obviously, he wants me to put down that camera and give him his treats immediately! This is one that visited us at our old house, and would take peanuts from hand. I miss them!

At a recent horse show, A Jack Russell puppy that one lady had for sale, meet some Dachshund puppies that another lady had for sale.

Payne Stewart Golf Course, Branson, Missouri, last week. They had a lot of rain the day before we were there. Beautiful.

Nicole, I love your redwing picture. They are my favorite bird. I didn't know about their bad side. I find them beautiful and only see them occasionally here. I used to see tons of them when I went to Chincoteague Island in Virginia. I love their vibrant colors.

We have plenty of red wing black birds here in summer, but they are so wary that they do not bother people. Its the opposite; Its hard to get close enough to get a shot, and when you are close enough, they contrive to keep something between you and them. However, they do not nest in town. Our town has plenty of wet lands outside its perimeter and that is where the red wings are. They love our cat-tail swamps. At this time of the year, other types of black birds are forming huge flocks in preparation for migration. By mid-October, our black birds will be gone.

The redwings can be relied on to come through our yard in early March. When they arrive, I know that spring is on it's way. The males are about a week ahead of the females. They don't stay long, moving on to nearby wet areas for their breeding season.

Murraysmom, I got that 9 piece hummingbird puzzle all put together last night. I immediately took a picture, but I won't show it here . Don't want to ruin anyone's fun with theirs. lol

lgmd_gaz.....I went online to your link and tried the 9 piece frog puzzle....Oh man! That was really hard! :0) I stuck it together and one piece was wrong....and then....well.....:0)

Red wing black birds are a wet lands bird. They avoid humans here. We value them as "special". We used to have migratory golden eagles come through. They carried off the neighbors cat as my husband watched from a great distance. People with pets aren't missing those...
