how deep is the crown?

Does it look too deep? I assume I planted it with reference to the depth in the pot, but don't recall any details now.

Here about mine as a comparison. I am also in zone 5. My 'Blue Hawaii' is established over several years, has no yellow leaves and stands up, got water and shade regularly.

Thanks, Kathy. How large a plant was yours? Mine (quarts) each had about 6 leaves at planting (second week of August) and have produced no new leaves.

I think there were 6 completely dead leaves on the ground. The ones that are green were little when I got it.

Planted too deep for sure - or too much mulch pushed around it.

Just take your fingers and move the soil away form where the leaves come out of the crown - tells you how much to lift it up and replant higher.

Planted depth in 99+% of all pots I have seen recently are 1-2 inches too deep.

Just look for the crown to be at the surface.
