Why do my Dudleyas and Echeveria cante stand up so tall?

Hello folks,

I'm a relative newbie and I'm hoping some of you experts can explain this to me.

I've had this lovely E. cante for two years. This is what it looked like when I bought it:

It flowers mightily and looks healthy and happy, but instead of spreading out in this lovely dish-like shape, it now "stands up" so that it's shaped kind of like a lotus--I don't know how else to put it. I live in the Bay area, and we do get fog here, so I thought maybe it wanted more light. I put it in a sunnier spot a few months ago, and we've had a *lot* more sun than most summers, but that hasn't changed its shape.

(Yes, I know I am a bad mom and I should clean out these dead leaves!)

Also, it is *smaller* than a couple of years ago. Not sick-looking...but it just sort of shrank. Is that normal?

I didn't think too much of it, but then my dudleyas did the same thing. This cutie pie used to be pretty much flat. (I think it is brittonnii).

I am glad that these little beasts seem healthy! But they looked prettier in the old shape.

Anybody know how this works? Normal/not normal?

Thank you!
