HELP Jade dying, Leaves turning yellow, green ones falling off.
Comments (5)From what I've read on a lot of different insecticides, both organic and chemical, is that you should not use them on jade/crassula. I agree, they are sensitive to most insect treatments, outside of soap. My practices with jades are to do pest inspections every time I water, so I can catch any problems when they are minor. Mealy bugs are the main suspect when it comes to insects on jades, and catching them early is a must. Once you have a severe infestation, it is hard to clean them up because of the problem with using insecticides. I have a tweezers I use for removing mealy bugs, but a cotton swab dipped in alcohol works well also. Jades can tolerate alcohol because of the thick leaves, so even a water diluted alcohol mixture in a spray bottle can work for major infestations. Spray the mixture on good, getting all the nooks & crannies, wait 10 minutes, then wash it off with a spray of clean water. Also, are you even sure what kind of insects you saw on your jade? They may not have been pests, maybe something just hanging out in the plant, and you sprayed it for nothing. A good practice is to always identify any insects you find BEFORE you take action, so you can be sure of what action you actually need to take. Joe...See MoreWhy are leaves falling off my jade?
Comments (22)Oksana - I water with normal tap water, which is from the Great Lakes of good quality. Ozone is used for primary disinfection here, along with Chlorine gas. Calcium thiosulphate is also used for dechlorination and ozone quenching. I used to let my water sit for a couple days, but once I figured out which technology the local water treatment plant is using I stopped. Unfortunately, I do not know the PH of my water. My PH meter should arrive next month and I am curious to see the result. My watering frequency was every 2 or 3 days outside during the summer. Now every 4 days inside under lights since things have cooled down. I am fertilizing every other watering at ~1/4 strength. For fertilizer, I am using two. The first is liquid Miracle Gro 12-4-8 with micronutrients. It has a few micronutrients (there are very many for plants). The second is DNF Gro which is a two-part liquid, 2-0-2 and 0-1-3 with different micronutrients. Once my EC meter comes in, also next month, I am planning on taking some additional measurements as well. Could you share what you are using as well?...See MoreEcheveria black prince or black knight.. Leaves falling off :(
Comments (9)Those leaves looks really water logged; any succulent needs to be in well draining mix, and receive as much light as possible. If the roots and/or stem is rotted, rot will spread up the stalk very fast. It would help if you get it out of the wet soil, get all of it off the roots and see if there are any, and what condition they are in. The stem looks still green, but also check to make sure it is not soft/mushy. Pls. indicate your general location to get better answers...(it would be best to post it next to your name)....See MoreJade plant falling leaves & poor condition
Comments (2)Looks like it is double-potted. This can increase humidity around the plant, so I would remove it from the outer pot. Move it outside and transition slowly into full sun until weather gets too cold. I'm not sure if you are over or under watering, maybe neither. Push a wooden skewer into the potting mix and remove after a few minutes. If dry, water, if damp, don't. I assume the inner pot has drainage holes. If you water when it's in the outer pot and the bottom of the black pot sits in that water, that would not be good for your plant. The white rocks are beautiful, but if you have further problems I would remove them as it slows the time it takes for the plant to dry out between waterings. Others may disagree with me on that. Many here use top dressing with no problems. It's a nice plant, so I hope most of your troubles are from adjusting to new conditions. It is troubling that new growth is dying because sometimes all leaves just fall off. I hope someone else here can offer some helpful suggestions....See MoreRhamel (aka teengardener1888)
