Mine will be about the same size, and contractor told us about one and a half weeks. But no new walls, windows, etc. Using the same contractor that did our kitchen. He was honest, reliable, and three years later his work still looks great. He does great work. Demo and reframing is day on. plumbing electrical set up day 2 then all the installs, then the finish work. (painting, molding etc.)

@telluwhat one week is possible and not just on tv. A contractor used by my neighbor did 3 different bathrooms in 1 week per bathroom. I checked with the customers to confirm. He also quoted us 1 week. He had some incentive to get the last one done quickly since the customer was leaving for vacation and agreed to pay him a significant amount more to have it done by the time she returned. He admitted that he had to call in reinforcements but got it done.

rebeccamomof123 7 - 10 days seems reasonable to me since the quote is for a basic renovation - not moving walls or plumbing.

My bath is 5x10 and it took about 4 weeks, one of which was when my GC was on vacation. Everything went smoothly except for a row of floor tile that had to be redone twice, so that extended the project by several days.

2-3 weeks would be the proper expectations. More time is certainly possible if water damage is discovered. Less time is possible if you have everything on site sitting in your living room and checked for damage and accuracy before the demo is started. Even then , a former job could have something go haywire that needed attention. Down time WILL occur in the process. It's normal and should be understood to be normal.

i would never ever suggest having expectations of one week. Either the work will be poor, or the price will be high. Fast. Good. Cheap. Pick two.

hey all, are permits pulled and what is the inspectors schedule look like. thats usually a factor. depending where you are it could be as easy as building dept. saying go ahead or inspections needed for plumbing, electrical, insulation and if need be framing. then final.

In our area, replacing the fixtures does not require an inspector. I think one week is reasonable if you are not replacing any tile (certainly not the floor). If you are doing new tile, one week is probably pushing it but probably still do-able if your contractor is well organized. It depends on the scope of the work to be done. I think a remodel for most people who post here is usually more extensive than most.

lets consider navigating an apt. building, parking , working in tight confines with an at home client , lets consider how many humans can work in this small space at once and how much storage and staging space this ladys small apt has throughout the job while she works from home? is there stairs and or elevators?

and now enter the fact that there is no scope of work spoken of.

you certainly can paint and lay vinyl and replace trim in a week. a gut/reno permitted inspected with any tile, vanity, and certainly any plumb electric work drywall mud paint trim....

are you accounting for the quote /design off site time? the material selections/procurement time? the apt bldg association rules? handholding?

have you yourself built 50 bathrooms and can speak to all the challenges or did your neighbors cousin tell you a week?

I'm so glad we live in an area where you don't have to pull permits and have inspections! That being said, DH is in the construction business and is (overly) nit-picky and over does and thinks everything. And no other houses within 300 yards or more in any direction.

katrina, the bathroom wasn't completely unusable for a year. It was in different states of usability till 3 months ago and the vanity could have been accessible but it was covered for protection.

telluwhat Since you asked, I've done 3 bathrooms, albeit out of state and in single family homes, not in the city with a Board/Association. Elevators, storage on the terrace for anything that can't be kept in the empty 28 x 12 living/dining area. A contractor we are considering told us one week for 3 separate bathroom renovations, and I stated, his clients confirmed it took one week for each bathroom. They didn't move walls, electric or plumbing...so presumably no inspections.

I used a contractor who specializes in condo bathrooms, particularly condos with one bathroom where fast turnaround is needed. The room was gutted but nothing was moved. It took a day or two over one week and we were without a toilet two separate nights.

The job was high-ish quality, and it was about twice as expensive as some other bathroom projects we did for other people. It was worth it to combine decent quality and speed.

I am currently doing two bathrooms with contractors who do very high quality work but don't charge very high prices and each one is taking about a year.

you are not talking about a bathroom remodel. You are having some cosmetic upgrades done. id suggest verifying with your association About permitting any contractor work out they are gonna want to see insurance in multi family dwellings typically

cutting corners and rushing thru w/o permits is a gamble ill tell you what your OP says remodel and 1 week in an apt bldg is tight And forces a rushed project...

My 5x7 bath took about 5 weeks and cost about 5k. I had one excellent contractor who did all the work himself and worked solely on our project for those 5 weeks. The job included doing a full gut of the room, moving a closet in the adjacent guest room, moving the door to the bath, resizing a window, and relocating all fixtures. That also included a fully tiled shower - so everything was custom.

As you've already heard, timelines can vary tremendously, depending on how involved your remodel is and how custom your materials are (e.g., a custom tiled shower with a mortar bed will take longer than an acrylic shower insert).

my contractor finished two similar sized bathrooms in 6 working days. they were full replacements; new tubs with large size porcelain tile tub surrounds and large size porcelain tile floors. I supplied all the materials to ensure that they would be available when construction began.

no permits were required and no electric or plumbing was moved. but everything was replaced. there was a few day delay for the granite installer to install the vanity tops.

they did great work. I was amazed that they were able to move so quickly. a good contractor will have a large enough team that works efficiently to finish a bath in one week.
