soap dispenser in laminate countertop
Comments (1)I'm presuming that means you will drill holes through the laminate? Unfortunately, that could mean that water can get in there -- particularly since you're talking about kids here -- and that could cause problems. If the laminate is on top of particleboard, you could get swelling and delamination, and if it's plywood you could also get some delamination. That's why they caulk around sinks with silicone. I'm not sure caulking is feasible with soap dispensers, particularly over the long term. Personally, I wouldn't do it. You can get them a nice looking soap dispenser that can sit on top of the countertop, and avoid worrying about whether holes in the cooutertop will be a problem or not. Alternatively, if you put in new sinks, you could, perhaps, get ones that have pre-drilled holes for soap dispensers and avoid messing with holes in the countertop....See MoreIs your countertop soap dispenser a test of patience?
Comments (23)We've had soap dispensers for over twenty years. Before we got Never MT, had problems overfilling, having to pump numerous times, but nothing so bad that we would have considered not having a soap dispenser. We did have a problem with Dawn detergent eating through the metal spout on our first kitchen soap dispenser, but we bought the replacement part and started using a different dw soap. Since installing Never MT several years ago, I only had a problem once, when the tubing got pushed down too much in the soap bottle. We use DW detergent in our kitchen (use it both for dishes and handwashing) and hand soap in the bathrooms---no drips, no problems. Comments (6)It's a Kohler with a spout of about 3 inches. Would rather it have spout of minimum 4 inches so it can clear the counter sill. I have found I need to use very thin, watery soap or it won't dispense. I found another Kohler listed with a 4 inch spout online, but a bit longer would add some margin. Comments (3)If you need another hole drilled maybe you could have your fabricator come back and drill one on site? I’m not a pro or fabricator, so I have no idea how feasible that is. 2 side by side dispensers would be fine (different heights is a good suggestion). We only have one in-counter dispenser. It has hand soap and then we have a decorative olive oil type of bottle for the dish soap. Whatever you decide, don’t forget to buy or make your own Never MT! It’s less wasteful to buy in bulk, and the never MT gizmo means you only have to “refill” every year or so. We’re averaging about 18 months here. https://www.amazon.com/Never-Mt-Soap-Dispenser-Kit/dp/B002FJ9LBS...See Moredietitian
