Spiders are a beneficial predator. They dont harm your plant in any way but rather catch the bugs that do and have them for dinner. If your plants are overrun with spiderwebs you might be having some issues with your plants which is causing these bugs to take a home there.

Are they inside or outside? If your plants seem wrapped in webbing, it's probably not a spider.

Laticauda - you actually CAN see spider poop. It is little dots. I used to have to clean it off of my mother's house 3-4 times a year. Nevertheless - I agree that heavy webbing may be something other than spiders, but I doubt it is tent caterpillars. Golly, I hate them! And yes, that was another thing I had to take care of for Mom.

I agree with your first post, and Minty's post as well - most spiders are OK to have around your plants. BUT it makes me look for the things they are feeding on my plants and providing food for the spiders.

That's fly poop, not spider poop. Or possibly roach poop...depending on what exactly it looked like.

Well, it's not spider mites or caterpillars. I actually have seen some a while ago, but they were too fast for me to catch. I haven't seen one for a while now. Guess they know to hide when I'm out there. I've sprayed the plants, but nothing that says it kills garden spiders. I used to want to move them, now I just want to kill them.

Hm...something is fishy here.

Spider droppings, IME, are typically white or grayish or a light tan. (Speaking as one who has kept a number of them as pets.)

spiders are very polite boarders. They don't make a mess of things, typically.

and they certainly don't mess in their webs! Do you poop in your bed?

I treated the plants with a Bayer systemic which should have killed any spider mites. That's why I don't think it's spider mites. Also, the webs are not just on the plants. I have them around the lath house too. It only bothers me when they are on the plants.
