Lauren, you should probably start a new post about Asp fern so more ppl will read it. Do I change my advice? Do you mean as far as setting it outside this yr? If so, nope, wouldn't set out in freezing weather at this point, but I'd set out next spring/summer next yr. Mine live in a west and north window in winter, but out in the open in summer..Remember, Kal's are succulent so proper watering is important. Too much and they get root rot. I hope your Kal decides to bloom again this yr, but if it didn't have short days (for 6 wks) or that cooling period, I truly doubt it. Sorry.. :) Woods, I keep my Kals out after first frost then bring them in the following day..Toni

I would not remove any new growth, since these tend to get leggy with time. I would slowly acclimate it to a nice moderately sunny outdoor location so the color will improve as will the growth. In the fall when frost is near, it should set flowers and you will want to find a sunny indoors location.

Toni, thanks for replying. So the plants are kalanchoe blossfeldiana? Right now they are in regular potting soil in plastic pots (no drainage holes). I do have some clay pots in the basement and just bought some cactus soil today. Is that what I should plant them in? Also, should I cut off the empty stalk and try to root the top part with the leaves? Or are they supposed to look like that (stalk empty at the bottom, and growing up and down and all over the place)? Here is a link that might be useful:
