My 1st Barrel Planting; Need Suggestions
Comments (1)Hi This year I decided to put in mine Castor Beans, Firecracker Sunflowers and Nasturtiums. I planted from seed right into the barrel. I will see how it turns out. Last year, I put in Castor Bean, yellow and burgundy potato vines, some type of floppy grass and nasturtium. It looked alright but probably would have looked better if I had fertilized regularly. Cannas with marigolds look nice too. I hope this gives you a couple of ideas. Danni...See MoreNeed Beginners' Suggestions
Comments (3)I really like the Broderbund software called Print Shop. So easy to learn --- you can have your first card made in 15 min. I have used about 4 greeting cards/etc. programs and always come back to Print Shop. It will import a typed recipe or an uploaded photo. I make individual Xmas cards for my granddaughters with their names in headlines. And I use it for newsletter articles with clip art. So easy!...See Morenew snake plant- total beginner in need of tips!
Comments (14)If the soil is peaty, I'd repot it again now too. With those *GIANT* windows, anything that doesn't require significant direct sun should do well. If you plan to live there indefinitely, (I'd have to be dragged out, kicking & screaming...) and you'd enjoy more plants, you might look at a few that are usually too big for the average home/window, like Monstera deliciosa, and bird of paradise (Strelitzia, there are several diff species.) Trees like various types of Dracaena, Schefflera (actinophylla is the bigger one,) and China doll (Radermachera) are usually fairly easy to find. Palms! I need to click submit now before I start rhapsodizing about the plants you could hang...!...See MoreBeginner Gardener, I really need help or any advice with my problem.
Comments (6)It looks like everything isn't getting enough water. The amount of water a plant needs is highly dependent on the soil that it's in, and how much heat/sunlight it gets. That soil looks like it's very fast draining so you may have to water more than 1 time a day, and for longer periods of time (try to keep the flow low). The perlite mixed into the soil makes it drain really fast and the roots dry out shortly after the soil does. I have a lot of plants in containers and I use an automatic watering system for them. They get 10 minutes of water every morning from 1/2 gph emitters for 1 gal containers, and 1 gallon emitters for the 2-3 gallon containers. Anything larger than that and I use variable emitters. In summer, I change it to 8 mins, 2 times a day. You can get one of those timers for your hose and just leave it on real low for a few mins each day for these. As far as if everything is savable, everything except maybe the first picture has a really good chance of being saved, and that first plant might be savable but I'd give it a lot of shade for a few days and definitely give it regular and long watering....See MoreCorporate Liquidators
