Apples have brown spots!

Hi folks -

moved into a house last summer - we have an apple tree that seems to be doing well (producing a fair amount of fruit) despite needing a good pruning.

A few questions based on the attached photos:

1) What kind of apple is this? Tastes like a MacIntosh

2) What are the brown spots? I assume all evidence of a worm?

- what can be done about this pest right now (assuming to preserve the one third of fruit that is not damaged thus far?
- what should be done for preventative measures in future years?

3) I plan to prune this tree early spring. perhaps this question will be answered if I can identify the variety, but should we expect to get fruit every year, or every other? Last summer we did not notice any fruit, but I was assuming this was because wintermoth worms defoliated the tree/blossoms thus no fruit.

My family and I are excited to be bless with a great tree! Just need to learn how to care for it...

Many thanks!
