Squeaky close to a finished kitchen....after 24 years of changes!
Comments (6)Am I to understand you had to get a new husband to finish a kitchen remodel?!?! Ha Love it! TKO at its best... Just kidding - I have lived through those types of remodels; the only running water in the house was in a bathroom tub and being 9 months pregnant, then with a newborn... Please share pictures when you can. We celebrate with you!...See Moreso excited, house if finally being painted!! (after 4 years)pics
Comments (14)Thanks so much everyone. It is so nice having friends on here that can appreciate an older home. Most people IRL thought DH and I were crazy for buying this. We bought it for the long haul, to raise our family in, but it still kills me how we bought it in the height of the real estate market, and have no equity in it now. It's encouraging to hear people think it's cute and not the mess we moved into. teacats, I have a lot of before and after pics of the inside. Someday I will get around to posting them. We just have so many ongoing projects, and they are ALL DIY so they take forever to complete!...See MoreCarrara Marble success stories--5-10 years in? Pictures?
Comments (6)I posted this on the other marble post following your questions about yellowing and rougher patches in your shower floor. I have eleven year old marble kitchen counters and the only way to successfully live with your marble is to accept it for what it is. You can not prevent the things you are trying to prevent no matter how you maintain it. Embrace it as a living surface or exchange it for another product. Trying to change how the properties of marble act will only serve to drive you insane. Etched marble feels rougher than non etched polished marble. Any thing with citric acid will disolve the talc within marble and etch it. Etching is not a stain it is a chemical reaction that changes the surface of the marble. These changes can appear as discoloration, water spots, dull spots or pits. Most hand soap and shampoo contain citric acid and thus can hurt your marble tile. Marble can contain iron and it can also absorb iron because it is so porous maybe your water has iron in it or these yellow pieces contain more iron than the other pieces and water is oxidizing the iron( rusting) and thus it yellows. Can not be avoided. All these " issues" you are noticing are natural and unavoidable properties of marble. It is known as patina. You either love that patina or you do not like it and change your surface but you can not have real marble and not have this natural patina. I love the patina and love marble as a living changing surface! It ages and changes like us! editted to add sealers do not prevent etching at all. May help slow down yellowing but sealing is not waterproofing so will not help greatly....See MoreUnderground Sprinklers Need to Be Taller After 10 Years
Comments (10)Popup sprinkler heads are typically on a flexible arm. You can dig down to that arm and bend it up to set the top of the sprinkler higher. Or you can dig down and replace the whole popup with one that is a few inches taller. But I know of no solution that allows you to simply replace the popup mechanism within the popup assembly with a longer/taller one. To fix this you'll need to do some digging....See MoreNothing Left to Say
