You're saying the machine boots and runs fine on battery power? But if you plug in the charger, it shuts down on you? The only way it will boot up and run is on battery power?

Sorry, those are just questions to clarify, hopefully to enable someone more knowledgeable help you.

Personally, and this is from a non-tech, I'd probably make sure it's charged, boot up, let it update. While it was doing that I might look at power options, hoping to find something amiss. Like I say though, I'm not a tech, nor much of a Windows person, so hopefully someone else will know more how to help you find out what's wrong.

Can you give us a Model Number?

I have 4 Acer Devices running on Windows 10 without a problem. Acer Aspire 5742z-4601 Laptop, 2 x Acer Aspire V5 573p-6896 Laptops and an Acer Iconia W4-820-2882 Tablet. If we have a Model Number like I posted above we can look up to see if there is a specific problem with that Model Number or In the BIOS.

With your computer Plugged in Start it up. Press the FN Key (lower Left on Keyboard) and F6 at the same time (then release). See if that helps.

If it doesn't work you could always try FN and F5. I'll keep looking!

I can't check anything on this laptop right now, it doesn't have any features, that's my other laptop. I don't have my Acer Aspire V5 573P out right now (it's more like your Laptop). I'm using my older Acer Aspire 5742z and it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that my other Laptop does.

Someone at the Acer Forum posted on Tuesday that Acer Released New Video Drivers pertaining to this problem. I don't see these drivers at the Acer Website. Try Updating your Windows 10 Install: Windows Start Button> Settings> Update & Security> Windows Updates (left column) Click on Check for Updates Button (Right column).

To check if a Video Driver Update was installed: Windows Start Button> Settings> Updates and Security> Windows Updates> Click on Advanced Options> Click on View your Update History. Look around for an update for Intel, NVidia or ATi Graphics Driver

Yet something else to try, go to: Windows Start Button> Settings> System> Power & Sleep> Advanced Power Settings> Choose What Closing The Lid Does.

On my laptop Under Battery and Plugged In they both say:

1. When I press the Power Button: Shut Down
2. When I press the Sleep Button: Sleep (FN Key & F4)
3. When I Close The Lid: Sleep

I would just play around with these setting a bit to see if any of those might make your Laptop function better when plugged in. Check your settings against mine that I posted above.

BTW, I looked at my Newer Acer Aspire V5 573p-6896 Laptop and the Keys are generally set the same on both of my Laptops (Older and Newer). I don't get my New Laptop out when my wife is at home. She doesn't know I bought it yet, I bought her one too and I'm going to give it to her for her Birthday in November (Unless her Old Laptop (Lenovo) Breaks down First. Since she didn't get me a Birthday Present I'll get my New Laptop on her Birthday too! I still have two upgrades to do to her New Laptop yet (Mine already has these Upgrades): 1. Purchase then Increase RAM from 4gb to 12gb, w/8gb G.Skill Ripjaws 2. Purchase and Install a Crucial 256gb mSATA SSD Hard Drive (set up with Windows10 and MS Office 2007 on the SSD Hard Drive using the already Installed Standard 500gb Hard Drive for storage. These are the UltraSlim Laptops w/Touch Screen, Lighted Keyboards, mSATA Expansion Slot and the rest of the bells and whistles (No CD/DVD ROM included).

To use the power cord the best I can do is to put Power Button and When I Close The Lid in Sleep and only use the power button instead of Win/Power/Turn Off.

Both PB and WICTL work for me if continually using the power button and putting LP in Sleep

I'll keep looking around. You shouldn't have to use your Laptop without the option of being plugged in. All five of the Laptops I have Windows 10 installed on work fine Plugged in and Unplugged, my tablet does too!

BTW, I surely don't need any extra Gravy! Won't say I'm huge, but all that gravy will get me there much quicker. Plus I do most of the cooking around here!

With your computer Unplugged.

1. Control Panel
2. Power Options
3. Left Column: Choose when to Turn off the Display
4. Towards Bottom: Change Advanced Power settings
5. In the Box of the Window that appeared: Click on the + Display
6. Click on the + Display Brightness
7. Click on Plugged In and using Up Arrow move to 100%
8. Click Apply then Ok at the bottom of the window
9. Plug you computer back in and see if it worked.

When I boot using just the battery and sign in I connect to wi-fi automatically.

When i use the cable i have to manually connect to wi-fi after sign in.

Not really, haven't seen any symptoms like that listed anywhere!

This is a very strange problem, there are lots of people having this problem even before upgrading to Windows 10 (even back as far as Windows XP). I think that it happening after you installed Windows 10 was just a coincidence. My Touch Screen on my Acer Tablet stopped working shortly after installing Windows 10. Ended up being a Loose Flat Flex Cable inside the Tablet, not Windows 10, but my first thought was Windows 10 had caused it!

I'll keep looking to see if I can find anything else. Most of what I'm finding are taking me down the same path, Monitor (Display) Settings. Guess I'll steer away for going down that path for now.

I do have one other thought: Maybe your Power Supply is going bad and it's not producing enough power to run the computer and the monitor both! Only real way to check this is to replace the Power Supply with a New one. There are ways to check them (if you're an electrician and have the equipment and knowhow)! I don't think it's the Hardware inside the Laptop or the Monitor wouldn't work on Battery Power! BTW, you can pick up new power supplies on Ebay at not too many $$$$.

If the place you bought your Computer at will let you try your computer with their Power Supply that would be great! It would save you from buying one if that turns out not to be the problem.

I'm sure you can order a Power Supply from Acer, but it's going to be much Cheaper buying it on Ebay! On the Acer Website that Power Supply runs $29.99 Plus Shipping and Tax. You can pick up a 65w Power Supply on Ebay for your (click on this link) Acer Aspire E15 E5-511-P6VU for around $9.19 Shipped. This Power Supply comes with a 36 month warranty! I found these Power Supplies much cheaper on Ebay but many of the other Power Supplies were only running at 40w instead of the 65w.

Acer is giving it to me free of charge.

Okay, can't beat that price!
