Is my recent purchase healthy? Just sunburnt?

I picked up a couple of plants at a garden center that were displayed
in the blazing sun. They all have some crisping of the older leaves. New leaves
look healthy. I have been holding them in the shade.

This Frances Williams has the most damage. Since the established
FWs I already have hate direct sun, that’s all I figured is wrong with this
one. I have been reading a number of HVX threads. Before I plant it, I wanted get some feedback.

i hope you got this plant at a high discount ...

its tired ... it was maltreated ... but i wouldnt be too concerned about it

but i am not sure its FW ....

Yes, it was very cheap. It is also a big plant in a big pot, which would have cost me big bucks around here, in whatever condition. I recall my earlier FWs looking very different when young. The corrugation that I love and rounded leaf shape didn't show up til much later. It's a "filler" so if it's not FW, it's no big deal. It looks like it will grow up to be a large variety, in any event. (I trimmed the crispy parts: have not done that before, but it makes me feel better when I look at it)

Don't be surprised if you get very few replies to your post. Though we owe a lot to pot growers for their due diligence in creating innovative growing techniques, most of us on this forum grow food; at least, that's my take.

I really like Come What May & Waxen Image. Halloween Halo & Little Showoff are on my wish list. THe only one I have of these is Summer Olympics, I got it last year. Hopefully, I will know this fall if it reblooms for me. I have so many that are supposed to be rebloomers that just don't for me. Summer Olympics bloomed nicely this spring & was one that didn't fall over after a heavy storm. I really like that about it. Maid of Orange looks like such a pretty orange iris. I got a couple of orange iris last year at the iris society-Fireside Glow, Good Show, & Carnival Sunset from a trade. Good Show was the best looking of the 3, a lovely orange glow. Fireside Glow is a rather weak looking plant that I'm rather disappointed in, both its look & its almost wispy plant. I got Orange Popsicle in a trade this year, supposed to be a rebloomer. Hoping it does well, it is sort of a pastel orange though. Maybe we can swap when they multiply? You know I love the rebloomers :)

I don't doubt that she's a good choice... I just don't want to be a pain in the patootie bugging her if everything's fine on my end. I don't know enough about these specific varieties, or about some of the trials in growing them when they look a little frail, to judge my guesses on if these are issues worth worrying about. But I guess I just tell her as much and just hope she's not annoyed or offended. Can't hurt, I figure...

Thank you mustbnuts, flowers and Kate. I’ve enjoyed Crazy Love a lot, I look forward to seeing your blooms next year, flowers. Kate, I’m pretty sure Solero will be a good bloomer, it hasn’t had a gob of blooms in its first season, but has bloomed regularly, hopefully it will continue to improve. I would describe it as a buttery yellow. I am anticipating that it and Bliss will be loaded with blooms next year. They are both blackspot resistant.

I have 18 FW planted in July. Everyone of them has at least one nasty looking leaf. Can I just cut the bad leaf off? In many cases, the other leaves are just fine....

Tough year here in SE MA. Usually many of my FW don't have any burning. Today there are a few with just minor marks, but none have escaped the hot dry Summer we have had. Hopefully El Nino will bring a mild winter after the brutal 2014 / 2015 winter we had.
