What Are Your Favorite Gardening Gadgets ?
Comments (39)This will sound a bit silly, but we garden a relatively large area, and I use and really love the almost fifty-year-old Ford tractor, which moves compost, manure & mulch, mows the field and woods roads, and picks up and moves rocks. I made fun of my husband when he bought it second hand about 12 years ago, but I probably use it about as much as he does now. As I age, having a machine to help with the heavy chores is really nice. Like duluthinbloomz4 I love my scuffle hoe - cuts both coming and going, and doesn't need lifting - just shuffle it back and forth to get rid of weeds. I like goatskin gardening gloves since I can throw them in the washing machine when they get too grubby, but they are tougher than fabric gloves and quite flexible. I love my straight edged spade, which I use for edging as well as for digging in soft soil. It has a D shaped plastic handle on a wooden shaft which is warmer and has less vibration than metal. I'm not sure that any of those qualify as gadgets, but they are my favorite and most-used tools....See MoreNew Garden and a few other things....
Comments (16)Kay - 16 new daylilies will go into that garden. In no particular order, JOLYENE NICHOLE, FAIRY TALE PINK, INWOOD, COSMOPOLITAN, MINI PEARL, OLE OLE, a seedling (BETTY WARREN WOODS x FOOLED ME), LAURA HARWOOD, LAKE NORMAN SPIDER, RUBY SPIDER, SPACECOAST FANCY DANCER, BARBARA MITCHELL, REAL WIND, SPIRITUAL CORRIDOR, ETCHED EYES and BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS. Not sure how I will arrange them in the new bed yet though. Can't wait til they are in there and start to fill in the area. I think the colours will look good with the plain white backdrop of the garage siding. Jason...See MoreGW Must Haves and Other Interesting Gadgets
Comments (12)I think my only must-have that could possibly be included in this topic is full-extension drawer glides. I actually wouldn't consider it a gadget, just an all-out necessity. I'm a party-pooper on this topic, since Soft-close, Tapmaster, NeverMT, plugmold, undercabinet lighting, steam oven, ice maker, and other things that tempted me after being introduced to them on GW eventually lost their draw for me...I hope those who have them fully enjoy them, but we couldn't afford them, have lived a long time happily without, and now still do in our new kitchen. My favorite new thing that I was introduced to and had my hand held through learning here was gas cooking, and cooking on cast iron. Great new experiences, both. I am about to look up that mandoline, though...Sounds great! And someday I want a more instant, instant-read thermometer....See Moremy other new gadget--battery box
Comments (7)Mine is similar. I didn't want one of the wall racks either. I couldn't find a box like this when I was looking so I bought a small tackle box (similar dimensions to Talley Sue's) & moved the dividers around to accomodate different size batteries. It's worked out so well! Even DH likes it. Before, I attempted to store them in the packages in a larger box. Of course, the opened packages were always spilling batteries out. Now I can tell immediately if we're low on a certain size. Mine goes on a shelf with the box containing extra light bulbs. Greta...See MoreNeil
