I'm not an expert on this, but you need to have Itunes to sync anything Apple.

Do you not have Itune on your computer? If not, get an Itunes account on your computer, plug your Iphone into the computer and they will sync.

That's how I do it.

Ipads and iphones are standalone devices. They have no need to be tethered to a mother ship (a PC). Yes, you can "sync" them to a PC to move media files in either direction. But it isn't otherwise necessary, both can connect to the Itunes store and app store directly

If you're talking about the kind of syncing most people use most - email, contacts, calendar - that also happens wirelessly, directly and constantly though the day over whatever direct internet connection the devices uses, whether Wifi or mobile data.

Snidely, I find mine does not update bought music or apps unless I plug it in to the computer. Photos, etc have to be copied to my computer. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but that's how I always do it.

set up an itunes account in your computer and then you can sync (copy) them into your computer. Some people use the cloud system to back up copies to but I prefer my laptop.

Thanks for all of the replies. I only tried to snyc because that was what the zedge app required. However syncing didn't help either. I just went ahead and got the ring tone I wanted out of Itunes. Much easier!

I don't have an iphone, but rather a ipad - but it's the same thing.

Why get an IOS app when using the PC when you can do so directly while using the device? Which is where it's going anyway.

In the Android world, the store (Google Play) has the same result whether "shopping" directly from the device or from a PC - it sends the app to the device wirelessly over whatever connection the device has, either Wifi or the mobile carrier's data connection. If the I-world doesn't work that way (I don't know because I never tried, I've done all my app shopping while on the device), then just use the device.

abbey, also research your dilemma on youtube. Frequently people will post lessons online and you will likely get your answers there. I referred to it when my young daughter gloriously clogged up my toilet bowl and managed to solve the problem without the need of a plumber.. -- but I digress. Just check youtube as well.

thanks again for all of the comments. I did check you tube and there were some very detailed instructions but unfortunately I could not get them to work. I am sure it is user error lol. I did download what I wanted off of Itunes so problem solved for now.

That's why I suggested you consult Apple directly...they would have walked you through it, or shown you how to do it in person at an Apple store.

The major cell carriers provide orientation and setup assistance too, as I had suggested. No shortage of places to go or numbers to call.

I agree that one's cell carrier can assist, also. However, based on my past mixed experiences with some carriers, I think I prefer going directly to Apple for most truly technical issues.

Since there ain't no such thing as a free lunch (TANSFAAL) I'm always suspicious of software that offers free ringtones, wallpaper, etc. You might consider asking the software developer why you need to sync with iTunes to use the app.

A few years back I had a co-worker who was a former Marine. He usually called when he was hungry so I downloaded an .mp3 and assigned it to his number. What ringtone? The bugle call for "Mess." <lol>

I can't speak for others but as a long-time Verizon customer, with both i-phones and Androids on my family plan, I can say we all experience good results from its tech support. In all the various delivery formats.

Ringtones are nothing more than sound files. Sound effects, songs, etc, are available from a variety of sources including many websites. Or, you can make them yourself with a sound recording program like Audacity.

I haven't done this for an iphone, but for Android phones, it's very easy to transfer such sounds and specify your favorite sound effect (an animal or other sound from the wild, a train, a car crash, a song, a bell, whatever) as one of the various notifications used by your phone. Or indeed, have a different sound for each incoming call from each contact on your list.
