You can use simple green stone cleaner on both. Make sure it's not the original. Must say stone cleaner

kmeemsie, the difficulty in using the granite scraps as a pencil line or frame is that the granite will be thicker than the tile. Your granite is probably 2 cm or 3 cm thick. You might get your fabricator to cut or polish them to thinner, but the cost of that might be an issue. I think it could look really sharp. Our fabricator did make us some pieces 1/2" by 3/4" by 2 feet to trim the sides of our rangetop, but they did it free to cover a mistake they had made in the cutout. They did say that they can't make pieces that thin in all granites - some aren't strong enough. On the other hand, the company that made our stone wall plates says that they can make them in almost any stone and they are really thin. It may be a matter of the tools the fabricator has available.

Thanks for putting that $.02 in Kevin, I've got no problem with dissent! Trying to make the right move for our family, here. I am definitely weighing how it will hold up over time. Are you anti-marble for kitchens in general, or is it just a Crema Marfil issue? As I said, I loved a quartz that I found, but the price was really hefty. Plus, I just don't care for the look of granite (though I like honed or leathered granite better than the polished kind). The only granite available around here in the colors I like are river white, kashmir white - and I just don't care much for them. I am curious if they would look less spotty and more consistent if they were leathered or something.
