Just wanted to update my original post. Changed the passwords to Go To My PC. Easier said then done as they require various passwords and access codes. The secured network was the worse. I could never have figured this out without getting Linksys on the phone. They were very helpful and patient. I had 5 computers to work with and all were XP except my son's which is Vista. All had built in wireless except my husbands old machine which uses a plug in wireless adapter. We had to call Linksy's for each computer. That's 5 calls but finally all are working. I increased the security of Zone Alarm to high, ran scans on all and nothing is showing. So far that weird business has not showed up again. Usually, by this hour it is. AZ, I understand what you are saying, but Emma makes a lot of sense. If users are not prepared for progress we would all still be using Commodores or in the least Win3.1. We have a whole bunch of Dell XP SP2 systems in our building. Six in our office alone. Ours are going to be replaced by a governmental entity due to security, non-MS software demand, and future anticipated expansion. You can bet many of the other offices will have to replace their systems via their budget as their offices have systems integrated for use with our data. And, we did survive without a burp when we switched from Win98 and Win2000 to WinXP. Bobbie, Hope you are sitting down. You know how I was dragged kicking and screaming into the post Win98 era as I loved my Win98 system. And, yes you know I love my Vista system even more and have defended it for all the bad publicity it received. My plans right now is to buy a entry to mid-level laptop with W8 just so I can play. See why I said I hope you were sitting down. Even though I think there is way too much going on now with the Internet, and can only guess as to what the future will bring we users have a choice. Be part of it or allow it to pass us by. Do I think everyone with a W7 should race out and purchase a W8? Of course not. However, two generations of O/S behind could become the future limit. DA

ok you must have something else too in addition to the antivirus 2009 this is another program we use to clean this stuff it is also free get it and use it to scan. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware v1.18 should be able to remove this pest ... download it to the desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. wait you don't have to take those off just turn them off while you try to get AVG to install and work. They are all fine good programs and should be on the pc. I would bet some of Norton may still be hanging in there causing the problem, so definitely use their removal tool for the version of Norton that she had that should clear up most of it. then go to right click start then explore in the tree> program files see if there is still a folder for Norton if so delete the entire Norton folder, anything you see labeled Norton or Symantec should go. You did not do anything wrong sometimes things just have conflicts and especially with Norton. So do the removal of that then just turn off those programs and try AVG again. The reason I suggest using the method in the AVG faq is that it keeps it from installing some of the extras that have caused problems on some pcs. It is a much slimmer version. You are doing a good deed! You are helping someone ,that is always a good thing. As I said it may require doing an add remove on AVG then reinstalling it, that is why it should be disconnected from the internet since you will be with out protection while AVG is not working. If AVG continues to fail you could try AVAST free, I use it on one of my pcs. avast! 4 Home Edition - FREE antivirus the install and user guide are on that same page off to the left. I do not use Vista so if anyone is aware of any conflict issue that I don't know about hopefully they will let us know.
