Butterfly Garden

Wishes sent on the wings of butterflies...

Anyone who is interested, please send wishes for a miracle with each release. My friend's 9-year-old daughter has recently been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor; glioblastoma multiforme. Prognosis is grim... I think the butterflies could be little messengers to carry requests for a miracle, and with each release, I send them on their way with a request of "please send a cure". It doesn't have to be specifically for "R", but all children with cancer could use our help and since butterflies are very symbolic...why not!

The daughter is wise beyond her years, but did laugh at my joke.."you can't say butterfly without saying 'butt'!" Hey...anything to make her laugh!

Life can be so cruel. We see it in nature so often, but hope it will not touch our own lives. Please know that my thoughts are with "R" and her family. I am a hospice doc and know how this tragic news can tear at families in so many ways. And words can't express the horror when it is a child. Please encourage the family to get hospice involved as quickly as possible to support the parents and any siblings. Look around for a local "Gilda's House" which are independent support organizations for anyone touched by cancer. Let me know if there is anything else I can do. Each of my butterflies will go with hopes for healing of her family.

"R" was diagnosed with leukemia at 2 and achieved remission. Relapsed at 5 and achieved remission with chemo and cranial radiation. Radiation, the "gift that keeps on giving", is likely the cause of this new diagnosis. Parents are still very hopeful...so hospice isn't on the table. YAY for being a hospice doc. Anyone who works with oncology patients is super special! I used to write for US Oncology.

Paula, Thank you for the offer but I don't collect gobs and gobs of seeds. I just collect a few seed heads of things I think others might like to grow and a few for myself for the next year if they are annuals. I shouldn't say this here on the garden web but I toss most seeds in the trash as I am cleaning up my gardens ( take a deep breathe, stop gasping...lol). I think this year I will collect more than usual because I feel like a cheap skate when I see some of the other seed packets in swaps...lol I have added the petunias to your gift package and again, thank you for the offer. Julie, this is an old thread and not quite the right forum either. Not too likely you will get your answer here. You might do better on the seed or plant forums or, there is one ( I think) thae is about sources. check toe list of forums. donna, it was fun reading this and seeing so many names we don't see much any more. Please accept my best wishes too for you and your friend's family. So much suffering for such a little girl. You were so wise to make her laugh! It is hard to contain our own sadness at times like this, but we want to make things lighter for the patient, not layer our problems onto theirs. Maybe some photos of all the beautiful butterflies could brighten her room?

I'm so sorry to hear this. I can't imagine all she and her family have already been through. Life is just cruel and painful sometimes. I'll be thinking of them with each little miracle flying off... to bring new miracles. I hope you can find ways to bring more happiness to her!

How very sad. Let's all keep hoping, wishing, praying for a miracle for the dear child. So, so sorry. It just doesn't seem right, doesn't seem fair.

Since butterflies really are little miracles, we are hoping for one too. Thanks all for the thoughts. There will be lots of little winges prayers when DocMom lets her brood go!! AMAZING!!

Just spoke with the mom...If anyone wants to post photos, she would like to share them with others in her group of moms, showing the kindness of strangers. Apparently butterflies are widely used in the logos for various childhood cancer groups....renewal of life? New beginnings? Whatever the reason, this little request just became more appropriate. THANKS IN ADVANCE!
