NEW: wish list swap

Michelle Reynolds

hello

I would like to host a wish list seed swap, I know it is the off season for seeds but I have some left over seeds and thought other people might have some too.

if you want to play:

1. post a list of your most wanted seeds.

2. check other peoples lists for things you have.

3. please mark clearly for whom your seeds are for.

4. feel free to send in miss. seeds for straight swaping

evan if you don't have anyones wishes you can join.

5. send seeds in bubble envi, with your garden web name

and enough stamps for return.

6. sign ups till june 20th

7. I will ship out as soon as I can and post it.

8. on the straight swap you will get as many back as you

send. I would like to limit it to no more than 50 seed

packets, and please no more than 2 packets of any one

thing. on the wish list swap, if you send in lots of

wishes you may not get as many back as you send, it

will depend of how many people send in seeds for you.

9. no old seeds, they will be sent back to you.

packets should have at least 15 to 20 seeds, any with

less or packets with only chaff will be sent back to

you.

10. please mark clearly what the seeds are, I have gotten

seeds in swaps before and I could not tell what they

were. if I can't read what kind of seeds they are I

will send them back to you.

11. I'm sorry for all the rules but I want everyone to be

very happy with the seeds they get.

please post here so I can keep track of everyone and people can see your wish list.

I will work on my wish list and post it later.

thanks michelle

I'd like to join! I know I have some wishes I can fill, and there's only one list up! I think you're right about everyone being out in the garden--this is the first time I've checked here in over a month. Extending the deadline gives everyone a relaxed pace for putting things together, too.

I'll work on a most-wanted list, or anyone can check out my regular swap wanted list.

    A couple of questions:

Would you be willing to get delivery confirmation, if I sent the money for it? (I'll have to find out if it's still $.50)

Regarding "Old seeds": I still plant things for myself from packets bought in 2005. Are those too old?

Thanks for hosting this, and I think having those rules is a very good thing!

I'm back, with a request for one more rule: you have to put your g-web name on the seed pack!

In my last group swap (which was a great swap) I got some seeds that might not be hardy in my zone, and I had no idea who to ask about them (they were an Iris, some of which are z5, some z6). When we put our names on the packet, it also makes the trade seem a little more one-on-one, and you get reminders of who you'd like to trade with again.

I'd still like to stay in the swap even if we don't add this rule, but I'd love it if it were adopted. Thanks for "listening!"

Hey Dave - Are you getting a lot of things in for Momof2 WV? There was a posting about her in the seed exchange conversations. I only had a couple of things from her want list but would be more than happy to have them just sent to her as a donation. If it's okay with you and everyone, you can just trade my seed packets for things that were earmarked for her. I don't need as many packets back as I sent in. I'm sure I sent in enough to cover hers (if not, let me know). I will work on getting her address and send you a mailer and postage to cover her stuff. It might make her feel a little better to get a care package from our group! Here is a link that might be useful: Momof2

Hey John, Good to know !!!! I thought it was a winter hardy one.. along with Wonderful.. Well you saved me again!!! I will see if I can buy another Russian from our Local nursery( that is if they have any in the fall). I did go to the farmer's market to pick up a Persimmon for My friend.... who grow a lot of Indian vegetables and Are getting into growing fruits... I get a lot of Tips for indian veggies from them as they have farms in India. They are the ones who provide me the seed for my veggies :-) The farmer's Market guy has a pomegranate, but is not Russian. Not sure what cultivar it is. He does not know either.. I am guessing Wonderful as that is what seems popular.

Has that ever bloomed for you? Well, ... mine is blooming now. I had a BUNCH of stuff blooming in the greenhouse. Karen, you didn't tell me it is THAT awesome with a greenhouse!!! Cacti that have never bloomed before, stuff growing like crazy, Wow, super cool! (well, yes, I am excited for spring!) Vlad

Am so excited to have drupes on the new Edgeworthia papyrifera that I got this spring. If I can catch them at the right stage of ripe and then get them to germinate ~a year from now, it will probably only be another decade before flowering. So why am I so excited? I don't know but have decided to just enjoy the moment.

    hello
stage rat - I would be happy to get delivery confirmation for anyone thet tells me and sends the postage for it.

and as far as marking the packets, I always mark seeds I collect (I think most people do) but sometimes I am trading packets I got from someone else that I could not use. I don't want to ask people to put their name on seeds they got from someone else. dose this make sense. it would be great for everyone to mark seeds they collect with their name.

and I think I would like to keep this swap to seeds no older than 06, some seeds don't last as long as others and we don't know if people have been storing them properly. sorry.

    thanks for joining

Now that I look at it, my list does look pretty exotic. I just basically cut and pasted my want list from my exchange.

I'm always happy with whatever I receive.

Here's a more reasonable list I'm interested in:

    Nasturtiums (identified, not mixes)
Morning glories,(chocolate, chocolate rose, any that are idenifiable, not mixes)
    Double or triple daturas
    Poppy Victoria Louise
    Daisys other than Shasta
    Firebush
    Spiderwort
    Crossandra
    Orange Jasmine
Blackeyed Susan Vine (any but I'd like the blushing susie or orange kind)
    Vines
    Roses
    Fragrant plants

Come on and post your wish lists.

I'll bet everyone has something someone else would like and vice versa.

I've participated in these in the past and I've always had a lot of fun.

    hello
    I'm still here.
I think it is time to at last set a date for the end of sign ups and when to start sending seeds, how dose sept 1st sound? for the end of sign-ups and for everyone to have their lists posted? and I would like all seeds in by sept.15.
if this is a bad date, too soon, too late, let me know.
I have many plants people have on their wish lists, I'm just hoping they will set seeds by then.
let me know if this sounds ok.
    thanks michelle

ps Pixiesluvplants - what you do is, post a list of seeds you realy want.
    chack other peoples lists.
if have seeds others want, mark them as to whom they go to.
send them to me with return postage.
if you don't have anything on the wish lists, just send in what seeds you have (not old seeds) and you will get back the same amount of Miss. seeds you sent in plus any seeds people sent for you from your list.
I hope this helps if not just post any questions you may have.
    thanks michelle

    Okay, here's some unusual specifics:

    Artemesia versicolor Seafoam

    Eryngium yuccifolium (Rattlesnake master)
    Gentiana saponaria (Harvestbells)

    Stanleya pinnata (Prince's Plume)

    But I also would love:

Antirrhinum (snapdragons), love 'em all, prefer taller varieties, mixes ok - especially would love Celtic Copper or Solstice Orange Bicolor
    Calendula, any, mixes fine
Echinacea angustifolia - this variety only, as I want to grow it as a medicinal herb
Everlastings - statice, strawflower, Bells of Ireland, other good drying flowers for wreaths and craft projects
Roses, not wild or rugosas - seeds from hybrid teas, floribundas, other specimen roses (I am aware they do not come true from seed; I like the surprise)

If signups are still permitted, I think it would be great to start a new thread for this swap--we may get still more folks that way--and for anyone whose wants list has changed to repost their list. Mine sure has changed! I know Micyrey just went on vacation, but I thought I'd toss this suggestion out there for whenever she comes back.

Thanks for the email. Here I am with my list!

The perennial that bloomed the longest in your garden this year that wasn't a coreopsis that will take zone 5 (sun or shade or both :))
    Your favorite 'front-of-the-border' flower
Coneflowers - any except purple or white
    Bellflowers - any except purple
Balloon Flowers - any except purple
    Penstemon
    Candytuft (perennial/evergreen kind)
Geraniums - any perennial (variegated would be awesome!)
Lilac shrub seeds - any except purple (yellow I'd love)
    Pansy - any, even mixed
Shrubs - any, they are fun to grow
    Verbascum
    Variegated Solomon's Seal
    Baptisia
Delphinium - any but would most prefer some 'bees'
    Lady's Mantle
    Goats Beard
Shade perennials: Watcha got that I should have? This is my 3rd attempt at trying for a shade garden before I have to hit the nursery (gasp)! I have the common stuff, astilbe, jacob's, loads of hosta, bleeding heart, anemone. I'm hoping for some pretty bloomers short and tall.

Looking forward to seeing what surprises land in my mailbox! I hope to make some wishes come true and we get a nice variety in the general swap. Looks like we will, judging from everyone's trade lists. I have lunch bags filled with seeds drying out. I hope everything is ready by mid-Sept. Wooo - cutting it close.

Thanks for doing this for us mickyray!!!
