Midnight Rose and Citronelle

Most varieties fizzle out quickly for me. I have a full
shade bed with mostly hostas and japans painted ferns. I am always hoping for
gold, lime green, or purple for in there. My favorite has always been Obsidian. But after
4 died there last year, I’m looking for alternatives.

I have a Citronelle nearby, planted last year. Doing well,
but that gets a half day of sun. So I bought 2 more this year. I bought Midnight
Rose to try that here, as my “purple alternative”. I have a 5 year old one in
another bed that does well.

But for some reason those badly declined even before
planting. (I had to rearrange the plants in the shade bed, so I bought before I
was ready, at a distant nursery that has a good color selection) I don’t know
what happened, the Citronelle still looked lush and full. I have planted them a
few days ago but I don’t know what to expect. I have never had a heuchera that
comes back from a decline…at all.

Anyone have any feedback on these? Especially in full shade.
Thanks.
