2 New Hoyas, .Did I Buy A Dud, or A Stud?
Comments (4)Hi. Who is Sue and what post are you talking about? I see the pictures of the flowers a Sue posted a while ago,of the H.Macgillvrayii flowers...but this Archbildiana is suppose to be cup shaped and a light pink with red/pink ribs on it,and the ends of the petals curled back. That 'Gray Lady' one I looked it up online and it is just another name for the same 'Silver Pink,or Pink Silver',or one of the 10 names of the same hoya, all the same plant, same flower. My H. Pottsii came today,2 decent sized plants starting to put out vines, and the H.Pubicalyx 'Philippine Black Chimrea' came to. Longer thinner leaves than my other 'Silver Pink' one,and the stems are blackish, lots of sliver streaks on it, so maybe it will give me darker blooms or redder blooms than my Silver Pink'. Hope so....See MoreHoya Curtisii
Comments (5)I think the differences may be cultural or just some quirk. I don't recall ever hearing of multiple kinds of Curtisii, or a variegate for that matter. It happens that some of my Curtisii had some of those leaves like in the first pic, those leaves which are mostly lightly colored, not dark as is the more usual. I remember wondering abt it & showing it to another Hoya friend. I really liked them & the contrast btwn the two. I wondered abt trying to take cuttings of those lighter leaves, but never tried to....See Morehoya curtisii help needed
Comments (8)wow 3 of my hoyas are still in the same pots they came in. my curtisii is the first one that came bare rotted only of course because I couldnt find a large plant to buy. I glad to find all of this stuff out because I have red buttons babies that will need to be repotted sometime. My curtisii is just in Miracle grow potting soilit has been watered once and gets the same misting daily that the big ones get. I only water my big ones once a month unless their soil gets unusually dry before that. My hindu rope seem to like the misting alot better then just watering. I better find myself a good hoya book....See MoreMy little Hoyas are safe-I have heat again
Comments (3)So sorry to hear about your furnace woes though - that is the worst!! It happened to me TWICE last Winter, during the coldest part of the season. I didn't lose any Hoyas, but most of my miniature violets and several episcias bit the dust, even with my frantically purchased space heaters. I wouldn't like to relive the experience now that I've acquired more temperate species. If you think they have sustained injuries, you might want to baby them a bit until they've had a chance to get their feet under them again. This would involve pruning away any dead parts, putting them under a grow light, and maybe even the application of a weak balanced fertilizer to help them. It's still early in the year, though, and none of the Hoyas you mentioned are too fussy, so I'd guess you're probably alright just staying the course....See Morestonetreehouse
