Hi Sakmeht, Welcome here. You should be careful with sand - it's not the good-quality element in potting soil that it's widely thought to be, at least for C&S. It does have its place, however, especially when you have nothing else. I'd use a 3/1/1 ratio, and it's OK to repot now - that won't affect the plant's flowering raceme. When you do repot, however, wait a few days afterward before you water. As I wrote, in place of sand, I'd use 2x the amount of perlite and only a handful of sand. Is that your plant in the link? Thanks. One last question before I commit to anything--I bought a 5 inch azalea pot thinking I could probably put all three in, if not permanently then at least for now. Would it be better to just go buy more pots and plant separately, or should it be fine having the three in one pot?

Hi! Yes, it will put out new root. And actually, you don't need damp mix. It may cause rot if it is too damp. If it's already calloused all you need to do is let it on top of your mix and wait. It'll take a few weeks and new roots should pop out. You'll know when you gently give your plant a little tug and you feel resistance. I just strongly emphasize GENTLY! Then you can start watering again. Remember the rule, no roots, no water. also, what kind of soil are you using. I recommend a very fast draining soil. If you have just some regular bag mix I would mix that with some pumice or perlite.

Al Tapla would you be able to tell me what is wrong with mine? I've had this tree four four years and never had any trouble with it but now I am killing it! I wanted it to grow more branches so I pruned it and moved it to a sunny-er spot and added grow lights and started fertilizing more regularly. Next thing I know, it's getting yellow blotches all over the leaves and sometimes red speckles and tiny pin holes. I found spider mites on a different plant, but I couldn't see any on this one, but I hosed it off and sprayed with dish soap in case it was mites. Then the soil was soaked and wouldn't dry and a week and a half later this leaf turned black and dry in the center. I thought maybe it was because the soil was wet too long. I freaked out, so just yesterday I did a full repot (never done this before) and added perlite and orchid bark mix to potting mix to get a grittier faster drying mix. I also cut off half of the leaves. It really doesn't look too happy today (droopy leaves and soft stems and even more red speckling on new leaves) I don't know if it's been given too much light, too much fertilizer, too much water, or is infected with mites, or all of the above. Anything you can suggest? The tiny pin-holes make me think mites are one the table but I hate to stress it out more if it's not that.
