Genetic testing questions

I don't know if I know enough to even ask questions regarding this but am hoping I can maybe learn something that will be helpful. I recently had some cysts removed from my scalp and the pathologist requested reexcision of one of the cysts because of some questions about the margins. As a matter of habit a report was sent to my oncologist (I had colon cancer about 5 years ago). The oncologist was not involved with the cysts removal as it was done by a general surgeonl. Today I got a call from my oncologist telling me that he thinks I should undergo some genetic testing as he is concerned I may have something called cowed syndrome which is found in patients who develop polyps, cysts, etc whether benign or cancerous. I am wondering a few things. Will the results of the testing be confidential (insurance company etc) and not used to at some point to refuse benefits to me (pre existing condition). Have any of you had this type of testing? I was in such shock when I received the call that I didn't ask any questions. I hope You can make some sense of this post! TIA
