I was very frustrated during the search for appliances. As you noted, there is no shortage of opinions, and here I am adding my own. This forum did help me though and I looked extensively at consumersearch.com for background and comparisons of the reviewers. As for the KA fridge, I have only owned it for a few months, started using it in June, so I can't comment on reliability over the long run or repair record. I can say it keeps food quite well, holds enough in both freezer and fridge and fits nicely in the space we have. Ours is stainless steel, my husbands preference, and I sometimes refer to it as "my aircraft carrier." Because it is cabinet depth it has to be wide and high - 36x72 - and I am only 5 feet tall. I can reach everything though. The door holds a lot and the shelves slide out. The cheese drawer is big as is the vegetable crisper. What I don't like is that there is only one drawer for produce. I like to keep veggies separate from fruits. Another feature I like is that it is well lighted inside with light bulbs in several places and a switch so you can turn off the ice maker. And it is energy efficient. I hope this helps you more than it adds to the confusion.

Does anyone know if Miele has plans for a 24 inch freezer like their others? Apparently the current 24 is Liebhor designed and not he same as the others (do door shelves)? Is that how the other sizes were as some point? I am planning a 36 inch column fridge and 24 freezer. Prefer Miele but don't like that freezer. I'm still a year away from my project so hoping that 24 is temporary filler for a 24 Built and styled like the other sizes. Would a paneled Thermador 24 look like a match to the Miele fridge? Or go to 30/30 like the original poster but I think I could use the fridge bigger, I have a garage freezer but don't want to go as skinny as the 18 inch. 24 seems the right size for me. Or I might go sub zero as I also like their over under all fridge (all fridge but with 2 separate drawers at the bottom). I currently have produce in undercounter refrigerator drawers and like the one step pull out access. But I'm more of a Miele fan. Had a subzero in my old house and knew my repair man a bit too well. But that Miele 24 freezer is a problem and I would love if Miele did the separate drawers on the bottom style for the fridge.

Scott/Pawprint - I strongly suggest you measure the height of fridge that your space is able to accommodate. We have an issue with our kitchen that was put in in 2000 - it is a small bungalow and is essentially a tear down. Due to our ages and the teardown aspect it would be ridiculous to redo the kitchen - we are in our late 60s. The kitchen person installed long cupboards. Our first fridge died at 9 years after a major repair - it was a GE Profile. We had 2 choices for bottom mounts when the GE died in Oct. 2010 - a Whirlpool or a Kitchenaid - same manufacturer of course - but since we do not eat deli it was pointless to go with the extra $400 Kitchenaid that had a deli drawer. At the time, there were many top mount freezer fridges available - but now there are not nearly as many. Many manufacturers do not make them and if they do they are at 70 inches high. We are limited to 66 5/8. The cupboards can't be cut. Maytag makes a top mount - not Energy Star - that would just fit. As does Frigidaire Gallery (and I mean "just") - we need stainless steel - one of the Frigidaire Gallery models has the Energy Star rating. Maytag is not great and Frigidaire is no longer the fridge it once was. I am concerned because of the current trend to make top mount freezers taller or to discontinue them altogether. GE was supposed to be making a HandiHeight model that would fit our space - but instead manufacturers decided to make cupboards shorter in order I guess to make people redo their kitchens. I even saw a badly dented shorter unit in a store that had a sign that read to the effect of buy me so that you do not have to redo your kitchen. We live in Ontario, Canada. Electricity costs are through the roof. We definitely need an Energy Star model. I know when we had major issues with the current Whirlpool at age 1.5 - 3 repair visits - it was possible to buy an LG unit that would have fit the space but not now - height is 70 inches. While our current fridge is still working I am very concerned about when it will die which could be tomorrow or next year and nothing will be available. The fridge is just the beginning our our nightmare. I haven't done a search as yet, but back when our GE fridge was fixed and ThatHomeSite was not owned by Houzz, there was a huge thread made by people who had the exact same problem as we have with the kitchen cupboards. Some people finally gave up and just put in a compact fridge (a good one - and they cost a lot). Perhaps I should be happy that the tile guy put the backsplash tile behind the refrigerator. Living in Canada only makes things worse since we do not have the variety available to us as do those who live in the U.S. Anyway, something to consider.
