Late emerging Castor Bean seedlings

I had a small plant I bought at a nursery last year. It
never achieved much height (~ 3 feet), but it did flower and produce seeds. I
collected them before frost even though I don’t know how to tell a fully ripe
seedpod from a not ripe one; as I was leaving for a time.

I planted them indoors in April, in small pots, 3 to a pot, putting
some of what I figure were duds in with ones I thought might be mature. Months went
by, and nothing happened. I gave them a trickle of water now and then. The nursery
where I bought my original plant did not carry them this year.

Well, months after planting, I have 4 sprouts. There are
very long stems (the first to emerge is a foot tall) with a big fat seed leaf
at the top. I don’t know if the extreme length was just from planting indoors,
or this is normal for these plants.

I assume it might be too late to get these in the ground and
expect more seeds. Can I transfer them to larger pots, in the hopes of bringing
them indoors when it gets cold? Or do they not like pots or being constrained? If
they are pottable, do I bury that long initial stem? The planting depth for the
seeds was 1”. Or do I need to keep the soil level the same is it was in the
seedling pot? Thanks for your help.
