Is this a Parula??

Not the greatest picture, but I couldn't use my flash and had to go to a no-flash setting and so it's not so clear.

I've been hearing what I think are parulas from the treetops all summer. I think this is a younger bird? But it seems to have the markings of a Parula. I hope so! It was right outside my window, eating things off my Joe Pye Weed. It has that little area of brown on his upper chest. And its bottom bill is yellow. What do you think? If you need more different shots, I'll post more, but they aren't as clear.

Northern Parula 100%. Not sure if adult female or first-year male with that weak breastband. Nice bird!

Thanks tmff! This is so exciting. They just started coming to our property last year. I've been hearing them singing a lot, but they are soooo hard to find. I wish my pictures were clearer. I usually keep my telephoto lens on my camera all the time, because I usually shoot things further away. But this guy showed up about 2 feet outside my window and I was afraid if I ran to get my other lens.......he'd be gone. Finally! I got to see him up close and personal. :)

So THAT's where they all are!! There is just almost nothing here (S-W Quebec) so far, save for a lonely Northern oriole in the apple tree... And I had EVERYTHING for my backyard bird bliss at the same time last year! But the weather is pretty bad (Easternly high winds and scattered rain), so insect-eating species must not be in too much of a hurry to get to the North I figure... The black-throated blue is my one if my own favorites!

rachel, actually its like one bird a day. thats about 21 days of hiking. luc quebec, i was with one of the top birders in the usa. i even asked him that. and i dont remember what he said something like trailing edge feathers etc......i dont know how they do it.
