Another ID thread... sorry to be a PITA
Comments (10)Well after finding out what they were I went over to the bush and picked some of the ripe ones. Not bad flavor-wise. I didn't notice them to be too tart but rather bland tasting. They reminded me of pomegranates actually. I think I will be cutting this one down to the ground this fall though as it's not that useful to me and is pretty much in the way of the lawn mower. Hubby keeps complaining about getting stuck with the thorns on it so I guess it's going to go sooner rather than later. It'll probably come back with a vengeance next spring though! Comments (5)Yep. Particularly for me--- SoCal and indeterminate tomatoes. I'm doing "ok" with my beneficials but I'm still working on the diversity of plants to attract the pirate bugs and such. I'm still trying to figure out how to get some buckwheat and/or alfalfa into my tiny backyard. And I don't ever see yarrow or tansy seeds/seedlings at the garden centers. I was hoping that lacewings would be able to take care of these pests because I definitely am going to purchase some in the next week. I just don't want to shell out more money for the "other" beneficials if I don't have a nice home for them to put out future generations. Looks like UC IPM isn't as thorough for the tomato bug as they are for other pests. You never had to deal with them when you lived down here jean? Thanks Kevin...See MorePepper Harvest and another ID question
Comments (19)Thanks - now I'm really confused ;-) The big flat ones started turning yellow so I'm sure those are the Numex Sunrise, still don't know what the thinner pointier ones that were about the same length (2nd closeup, and on the left in the picture with the quarter) are since those started turning orange (on their way to red?). Unfortunately this great harvest went to waste since DH just decided a couple of days ago to start eating raw peppers - beginning with the bananas. By that time, all the mystery ones had started to wrinkle and turn orange, and the Numex were also wrinkling. Jals, bananas, and cherries went to my cousin. I still have some bells I picked 2 weeks ago, will use 1 or 2 in salad tonight, Hinkelhatz have been seeded (saving seed, got plenty though may have crossed, if anyone wants any) and put in vinegar, and cayennes & Thais are looking OK in fridge waiting to be turned into hot sauce. I've just been busy with apples and quinces lately. Rest of the peppers are doing well on the plants since weather has been warm, but by this time next week we could have killing frost so I have to get busy harvesting and preserving them....See MoreAnother pepper ID please!
Comments (1)Aleppo maybe. Flowers and leaves look like mine as well. I would say small bells but they have no heat...See Moregawdly
