Does it matter who I order from?

I've gotten a couple quotes for Milgard Tuscany windows for our new construction house per plans. My question is, does it matter who I order from? So long as they're authorized dealers, I would assume that they're just sending the orders to the factory, which then get drop-shipped to our job site. Is there any reason I shouldn't just go with the lowest priced quote?

Getting warranty parts or service would be the biggest future obstacles. Much easier to deal with a good dealer vs bad one or the factory itself.

Most manufacturers have a "dealer locator" on their web site. This is usually monitored pretty closely by them and consists of their best dealers. I would start there and yes there are differences. I would talk to at least two, have them show you product, see how interested they are in your project and whether they ask the "right" questions. Another gauge would be how timely they are in getting your quote back. Don't necessarily go with the low bid. Go with the person that presents themselves' best, asks the right questions and gave you everything you requested on your quote. This is setting the groundwork for a good transaction.

Thanks to you both for the information. I will keep feeding/nutrient demands of plants in mind, and plan for legume covers, as I'm working out the rotation scheme. My main question is whether the plant's order should also be a consideration in a rotation scheme. Here in Florida soil diseases & pests are a major concern. My plan is to group plantings by family--all the nightshades in one bed, all the aster family (lettuce, chicory, etc.) in another, and so on. This way I can keep the rotation scheme neat, and if everything works out, a bed will get a five or six year rest before it gets planted with the same family again. But in summer I sometimes plant things like malabar spinach and purslane. These are in the same Order as chard and amaranth, but in different families. I also use buckwheat here and there as a trap/cover crop. This is also in the same order. I realize I need to plant a legume after something like chard, but would the following summer I plant malabar spinach there? Are they closely related enough to matter?

Broiling cook by infrared radiation (IR). IR can be reflected by reflective surfaces. Therefor if you use a shiny pan, it will help reflect the IR ray and give you a slightly better (more even) cook. Or put aluminum foil under the food. The NYT article ,"---- (My broiler, on which all of my calculations are based, is 17,000 B.T.U., and is typical. Some broilers, including most electric ones, are closer to 10,000 B.T.U.)---" is incomplete. Gas heating is mostly convection, and electric is mostly radiation. Which is exactly why I went down the seed route...although I do still mail order some plants. In the UK, we would expect to pay around the same cost as the plant for carriage...but this diminishes rapidly if ordering in multiples. Some firms, such as Lubera charge a flat fee (v.cheap too) for all postage and packing...and I never order a single plant mail order but will save for a spree of half a dozen or so. Ultimately, never following the latest must-have hybrid, I have hardly ever been stuck for a substitute which can be had locally. There are literally many thousands of plant varieties...it is beyond my comprehension that someone MUST have a certain variety and ONLY that variety...and if one is so determined and set in their mind, then suck it up and pay the ridiculously cheap nursery costs (having worked at one myself). I am astonished how incredibly cheap a plant, which can give years of pleasure, is to actually buy...given it might be 3-4 years in the raising.

Thanks for the comments. Do these dealers typically bundle installation, or is that usually subbed out to someone else?

Both. For new home construction your builder usually handles that and it should have spelled in his bid. If not, a recommended dealer either has on staff installers or a list of preferred installers. In window replacement projects, there is a growing trend towards one stop shopping.
