I'm slowing down--summer, other things on my 'plate,' etc. As I said, I didn't do so well last week, but my DH made up for it as he sold some tools. We will have a garage sale in mid to late August, I think, but have no place to store anything I pull out for it, so I'm sort of dawdling on that.

I'll work on something, just not sure what area I'll try to tackle this week.

I am still here and would like to keep this going even past 15 weeks. I did not do so hot last week as babysitting, taking care of my dad and other day to day things got in the way but I plan to stick with it even if I have a slow week.

I am still here but I started late. Got rid of at least 25 things last week and today Im concentrating on the guest room. I know 15 won't be hard to reach in there. Im having house guests at the end of this week and again next week so I have incentive!

OK, this afternoon I decluttered my standing jewelry chest of old/broken/junky costume jewelry, empty jewelry boxes, a film SLR camera and accessories, a compact CD player (another obsolete item), unopened FIMO clay bought in 1996 (!), and other odds and ends. It was good to get that done.

I'm with you, too, even though I haven't posted. I am trying to clean out my study, and I set my timer for 30 minutes and allow myself to top after that. I got rid of easily 15 things and found the documentation I need to redeem some of my mothers stock certificates. She died 15 years ago, and i really needed to clear this up. Yay!

I don't comment because I am not living up to the promise I made myself to declutter on a continual basis - but I do read each of your posts as I need all the incentive I can get.

I feel like such a loser when it comes to this area of my life. I know it's just "stuff" and of no consequence to anyone but me; however, this stuff has taken on a life of its own and what it signifies to me - my mother - now gone four years and my grandmother, gone 25 years (her things I inherited once Mom passed). If they weren't connected to these things it would be so much easier to let it all go. I never dreamed at this stage of my life I would be faced with these decisions because outside of some boxed up hobbies that have gone by the wayside, I use pretty much whatever I have in my home (husband's garage is another story). Anyway, bravo to all who have turned the corner and are making great headway. I'm not giving up on myself, I'll get there eventually, just not on the timeline I would have liked.

To anyone who may eventually be facing this same situation may I suggest that while your parents are alive and you are aware of the things you will inherit, write down all the items you know you don't want and where you can take them to be sold, donated, etc., BEFORE you actually receive them because once they are in your home the guilt kicks in and it's a tougher hill to climb.

I received excellent advice on this subject from several of you already so it's on me to do the right thing. As I reread this I think maybe I need some counseling if at this same time next year I am still dealing with this situation.

• Week 11 is done. Went upstairs and in one closet found 17 childcraft books and 2 children bible story books. They are ready to be dropped off to Goodwill. I am loved this decluttering of the closets.

I'm going to be MIA for the next couple of weeks. We'll be on vacation. Maybe tomorrow I'll take a quick look through another of my kitchen cabinets or drawers for items to toss!
