its a conifer.. and a tree .. but not really a shrub ... though that term is commonly used ...

just look at the bark ... you should be able to see .. how much it has grown this year... its still green... last year.. part green/part brown.. and all brown the year before that ...

this will give you an idea of its ANNUAL GROWTH RATE ..

and it will grow at that rate .. for the rest of your life ...

size estimates in conifers are all at ten years ... presume at 20.. twice as big unless you go at it ...

if a conjifer grows a foot per year.. its 10 year estimate is 10 feet .. etc ...

where you are can affect size ... e.g. my MI growing season is a lot shorter than down south ... or the PNW ...

google your latin name.. flip to images.. and you should see all kinds of sizes ...

This is not really a dwarf. It is considered an "intermediate" size conifer, putting on 6-12" per year. I know of one that is at least 10'x10' but I have no idea of age. And Ken is right - plants tend to grow larger in our area than in more extreme climates. It is amenable to pruning/shearing to keep to a smaller size.

I know of one that is 6ft.X6ft. and is trimmed every year because it has to. It was planted with very little room to expand. Apparently the owners misjudged it's growth rate. I know it to be at least 15 yrs old.
The white new growth is it's main attribute.

Thanks so much. The large size will be great for me. I'm screening off a new school being build on a field behind my house. Of course it will take awhile so maybe I'll plant something or build a lattice screen behind it while I'm waiting.
