Comments (7)Some (?all) of the typos that Bboy points out look like Optical Character Recognition mistakes during scanning from a paper copy - 'a' to 'n' (in 'Blaauw' to 'Blanuw') is certainly a typical OCR error. Juniperus x media van Melle was at the time (1983) thought to be correct; it was only in 1994 that it was pointed out that it was a later homonym for J. x media Dmitr., published in 1938 in an obscure Soviet journal unavailable in the west. The 'discovery' was made by P. A. Schmidt, who re-named van Melle's plant as Juniperus x pfitzeriana (note, pf-, not ph- !!). Resin...See MoreHaving a cow butchered - choice of cuts
Comments (32)I have not read the rest of this thread, just this most recent post, but I got 1/4 beef last week. The cow was apparently on the smaller side, at 610 pounds, so we paid our price per pound based on 1/4 of this total weight, so our portion was 152.5 pounds. We buy through a small local store, so our price per pound includes cut and wrap and everything in one number. We have 36, one pound packs of ground beef, about 18 pounds of stew, stir fry and cubed steaks, 10 pounds of steaks (we opted for rib roast for Christmas rather than rib steaks, and we chose to have more other roasts than steaks, so our steaks are NY strip, top sirloin, tenderloin and tri-tip), about 30 pounds of roasts and 6 pounds of "soup bones". I told them I wanted a share of the organs, they just left it for me to work out with the store, I think it depends what the other buyers want, but you should be entitled to a share of the organs. I'm not sure why, and we didn't get this before, but they also packaged about 25 pounds of bones and 18 pounds of "beef scrap". I have not gotten these when we've gotten beef before, even last year through this same place. Maybe it's because we discussed the organs being for the dogs (though I declined "dog bones" ) but I wanted soup bones, I really don't know. I'm going to thaw a pack of the scrap and see if it's feasible to cook that for the dogs, but I may also share it with my neighbor who hopes to have a deer to process this fall. Anyway, I just had to throw in that last part because all of this, including the 43 pounds of stuff we've not gotten before, fit in 3 cardboard boxes. Heavy boxes, but still will fit in the car with no problem. I think without the extras, it would have been pretty close to fitting in just 2 boxes....See MoreQuotes 8 - 23 - 17
Comments (2)Mr. Cuppy made me laugh out loud. Just when you're beginning to think pretty well of people, you run across somebody who puts sugar on sliced tomatoes. Will Cuppy Caesar might have married Cleopatra, but he had a wife at home. There's always something. Comments (64)It's been stated above that this isn't normal behavior for an adult in our society. I'm just rebellious enough to kinda want to stand up and applaud the woman's choice, for that reason alone! Actually, in my experience, "normal" is highly subjective based upon one's circle of influence. What was my own "normal" just a few years ago has changed significantly (as is probably the case for many people), because of the experiences I've had that have given me new perspective. Too, I believe that as our nation has welcomed immigrants from around the globe, "our" society/culture is not what it used to be. I view that as a very good thing. The names of my neighbors and many coworkers are no longer traditionally western, as used to be the case. That's not to say that any of them renamed themselves after a gaming influence, but just pointing out that we no longer live in a society where the Johns and Marys are as prevalent as they used to be. Names that once sounded quite unusual to me are now more commonplace. Obviously, this thread was started to invite discussion, and it's been a good one. I do think, however, that we cannot possibly hold an accurate opinion of this particular woman's choice without hearing her reasons directly from her. (And of course, that will never happen.) I also think it's possibly a bit like my tattoos. I'm 56 years old and two sessions away from completing my sleeve. There are some who cannot fathom why, at this stage of my life, I would do such a thing to my body, and I've stopped trying to explain my reasons to people with that mindset. The old adage, "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand" does hold true for many things we do that others view as being outside of their norm....See Morearthurm2015
