What color siding on new detached garage

We are in the process of having a detached stick built two car garage built. It is going to be a front gable with two garage doors. Size is 24 wide X 26 deep. The garage will be next to the house ( 7 feet away from the house) and the front of the garage will stick out 8 feet in front of the house.

We really would like to do another color of siding besides white, but I don't know that any other will look good.

Should we just stick with white siding or does anybody have suggestions on another color.

I took some quick photos of the house. The dirt you see next to the house is where the garage will be.

I'd look at something in a medium gray with white trim and doors.

I would have garage painted the same color as the (brick) house and the same trim. I would not have the garage forward of the house. You risk it having more presence that the house itself.

Will the detached garage be visible from the front or completely hidden? To me that makes a difference. If it is visible from the front of the house, it is better if the two sidings match in material, style and color. If it is completely hidden from the front, then having a coordinating vinyl works IMO.

House and garage do not have to match, but they should appear to be from the same family and have a family resemblance. They should not be visually strongly different and each fighting for dominance. Similar siding and color is often a good idea. Windows for a garage are always a good idea, allowing natural light in the garage and making the lawn mower much easier to find. Why do you think a hip roof would look weird? It would probably be better related to your house than a hip or shed roof...but we haven't seen the rear of your house.

zzest, If you ever still peruse this site, I am curious what you decided to do. We have a similar situation where we are totally rehabbing our screened porch to a 3 season room. The current red siding matches the house, but the contractor does not think it can be saved. New red vinyl not an exact match and a premium color to boot. We have a cream garage door, fascia and soffits. I will probably paint the whole house a different color anyway somewhere down the road, but not at this point. Thanks for any input.

I agree, make the garage siding the same as the colour of house (redish bricks) and use white trims, soffit and eaves trough for accents. Garage door colours would look nice with white. Keep the garage consistent to the house.
