Porcelain "Carrara marble" look-alike tile?
Comments (51)Do you have a sample of the Silestone Lagoon to look at with your tile. I think you are right that it might look slightly off but it's hard to know with out seeing it in person. I also think it might be difficult to find a solid white countertop that will play well with both the white in the tile and your white countertops. Maybe you should concierge a light to medium tone gray countertop. It will provide a little contrast and keep your room from looking too white (unless that is the look you want). I think it would look better not to have too much movement in the countertop since the porcelain carrara tile has lots of movement. I posted a picture earlier in this thread showing the Carrara look alike tile my daughter used in her bathroom. She opted for light gray cabinets and initially wanted a white countertop. She shopped remnants for her countertop and was not able to find something that didn't "look slightly off". She ended up using a black quartz that had some lighter speckles in it. She thought it looked better than a solid color. Perhaps you could find a grey with some flecks of dark grey, black or white in it. I've posted many pics of my daughter's bathroom on this forum but here's a few shots for you so you can see how contrasting colors work Since you probably don't want to go with black, maybe something like Silestones Ocean Jasper Or Moonstone Would work for you. If your not limited to Silestone Cambria has some options that might work too. Snowdown White Greystone Good look with your search for the right countertop....See MoreGeneral questions about tile layout with a busy vein-y marble
Comments (29)Its standard here for marble flooring, we go to the warehouse to pickup a slab usually around 8'x5' or more then discuss the final tile cut size to minimise wastage before the installer drylay the marble in the factory to arrange the veining (also to place less desirable tile under furnitures etc). I'm in the process of laying 27"x51" size marble tile for my flooring, still deciding whether to have the veins move vertically into my room or horizontally across it....See MoreMarble veining doesn't flow
Comments (13)I find this interesting because I disagree with most here. I think I like the fact that the marble surfaces don't "match". I think too much matching can be tedious. I have recently learned about a concept called "wabi sabi". Wikipedia describes it thus: "Wabi-sabi (ä¾Âå¯Â) represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection." Turns out that there are whole books written about this concept. It seems to largely be used when dealing with the "natural world" in design which I think marble is definitely applicable here. Kind of corresponds with Nate Berkus description of too much "matchy, matchy" is not desireable. Hopefully my words here make sense cause not sure what more I can say to describe. I hope you do use some "pops" of color and a fair amount of texture elsewhere in the room- I don't think your walls that aren't marble should be totally plain and white - not sure where I'm going here since I'm not a designer but thought I would put in an opposing view if you hadn't thought of this. I think the pictures you have posted seem to be taking you down the path of using a few "vintage" accessories. Not sure if that is what you would want but could be stunning....See MoreShould counter veins all go in same direction on all counters?
Comments (64)Threeapples I haven't done anything yet. Just in the early stages of planning a remodel and only know I want white cabs and a whitish stone that isn't marble.Love it, but too afraid of the etching and staining. The Macabus is looking promising, but not sure I want something that linear. Will check out the crosscut. Never seen Danbury in person; yours looks beautiful. Gigi, what is your stone? Also love that and Shanghai's....See MoreLiz Wild
