New laptop needed
Comments (31)I was in this thread looking for something on HP, didn't find it here or in a search. For those in the know on HP an easy one. Is the Pavillion model consistent in the general quality of the case and keyboard - a shared quality? I ask because I like the one below but can't find it locally... I can find Pavillion at my Discount Store (BJs - where my last 3 laptops were purchased) and so I can to a "look-see" at other versions of the Pavillion. Something else that bothers me is the physical size (it is a 17.3" and will be used to move from room-to-room, not for travel) Item Dimensions L x W x H 3.10 x 22 x 13.60 inches Forget the confusion of the listed LWH... the 3.1 must be how thick it is, can it be that thick? A compact desk top computer box may be no more than 5" thick. My current Toshiba and most others I see in the store are just over 1" thick, maybe 1.5" but nothing near 3". The specific machine I'm targeting is: HP Pavilion G7-2220us 17.3-Inch Laptop Sorry for any typos, basically is the Pavilion an HP line with similar physical look/touch? And what about the thickness?...See Morehelp needed finding new laptop w xp
Comments (26)Thanks! Still love working w Vista. Re watching TV at work, I work from home evenings and weekends - on other projects unrelated to my corporate exec day job. So the Vista machine is what I chose to keep from co-mingling my personal projects from actual work product. With the hours I spend away from the office (in spite of a 4-hour commute in total each day) I want to know of all the features available w Vista, including the TV/DVR one--have not had time to learn that one yet. Comments (5)I have been using, building, and buying computers since the mid 80's and have found that you just cant beat Dell Computers for the price, support, and customer service combination. I dont even build them anymore because Dells prices are so low that it makes building them not worth the time and effort when I can buy one prebuilt and software preinstalled for a few hundred price difference. I have had terrible experiences with Hewlett Packard and Gateway. I wouldnt even recommend them to my enemies, so I advise against buying from those companies. Deplorable customer service, and very glitchy hardware that needed to be replaced frequently. I had a gateway like 7 years ago that went through 2 motherboards, 4 hard drives, 2 cd drives, and 2 monitors. Supports, while polite, was time consuming, as was the patrs replacement scheduling and delivery. My experience with HP was bad customer service. They didnt know much and all they seemed to do was regurgitate from a manual. Dell reps, the one or two times i have used thenm, seemed to know their stuff and work with me knowledgably to solve issues I was incapable of solving on my own, plus they have an excellent online resource for issues. I do not recommend norton products ... almost all of their products are huge system resource hogs. McAfee is my choice in that area for email, virus, firewall, and enviroment protection. Very low on system resource consumption and complete protection. We get the whole McAfee Protection Suite free with our Comcast Internet Service, so I also recommend comcast cable internet if available to you. Dell still offers Windows XP over glitchy Vista....See MoreBuying new laptop Q's
Comments (9)I didn't know MS was skipping 9 and going to 10 - thanks, Emma. Yeah, I'm a little leery about buying a laptop online without trying it first. I love the keyboard and feel/response of the touchpad on my current laptop, so I want to find something as comfortable. I think it's best I wait until Windows 10 comes out... it might be less Windows 8'ish; although I've been using W8.1 on a desktop, so I'm familiar with it - and I don't absolutely hate it, like many people do. I didn't dislike Vista (my laptop), either, like many people do. I actually like Vista. Guess I'm not too hard to please when it comes to operating systems - lol....See More- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
