Possibly Epiphyllum oxypetalum (Queen of the Night) which is an old pass-along type epiphytic cacti houseplant. Have you ever seen it bloom? Does it bloom at night?

ideally you should find out what it actually is before doing too much with it. i think a well-lit, close-up photo or two would be of help for a positive id. if it is a kalanchoe, which seems most likely from your photo, you should have no problem saving it once you get it trimmed back and into some better mix and lots of light. lots of people will tell you it isn't meant to be kept after it stops blooming, but i have had really good success with these. cut the stems off 1-2" below where the leaves stop. let the cuttings dry on a shelf or window sill for 1-2 days, then stick into some really porous potting mix, water very slightly, put in a bright spot, and wait. when new leaves form, you know you've got roots! you can even re-pot the remainder of the plant after you trim off the leaves into better mix and put that in better light too. that will probably sprout new leaves as well, so you have multiple chances that way to get it right. after that, water thoroughly only when the soil is almost bone dry, and keep in as much sun as possible. turn regularly to maintain a well-rounded plant, and pinch back new growth occasionally to encourage branching and bushiness instead of long, leggy growth. a month or so after potting, start fertilizing every week or 2 with half-strength fertilizer, and wait for flowers! from my experience, the next blooming (after the one the plant is doing when it is bought) takes 1-2 years, but after that, if the plant is happy, it will bloom almost constantly! your baby isn't a lost cause yet! don't give up! good luck:) ps. i attached a photo of my kalanchoe blossfeldiana plants for you so you can see if yours looked like that before, and so you can see what you have to look forward to!

Agree with seedmoney on C ID. A. a Crassula (can't think of possible species now) B. Sedum praealtum (longer name using dendroideum, but this one ought to do) D. a Kalanchoe, likely one of the named '________ Bells' E. Sedum 'Super Burro's Tail' (it has other names used for it as well)

Or repot it into a plastic pot with plentiful holes in the bottom that will fit inside that decorative one. Always remove from the decorative one to water, and do not replace inside the decorative outer container until all the run-off has ceased.
