need gas cooktop recommendations
Comments (6)I also have a Wolf 36" cooktop and, in general, am very pleased with it. The appliance is solid and the configuration suits my needs - I didn't need 5 high-power burners. As mentioned previously, the simmer is fantastic. The one hesitation I have about the performance is that the heat is not distributed evently over the bottom of the pots. The hottest part of the flame is under the edge of the pan. I never cooked with gas before and got much better heat distribution with my old coil electric. I must be careful or the food on the outer edges will burn. I know that there are many gas fanatics but I don't think this appliance brings water to a boil any faster than gas. However, I chose gas because we now live in an area with frequent power outages and I wanted to be able to have the cooktop in operation. On another note I have been very pleased with the Wolf/SubZero service. I haven't had any problems with the cooktop but did have a defrost issue with the refrigerator. The service man was able to talk with the SubZero technical folks directly and solve the problem. I asked him if many brands had this type of backup help and he said no - another consideration in choosing between similar brands....See More36" Gas Cooktop Recommendations
Comments (5)Rita - thanks. The KA is tempting. Seems to be good quality for being under $600. We were looking originally at spending a little more for the cooktop since its the most used for us. I will look into Bosch cooktop specs/price....See MoreRecommendation on 36 inch gas cooktop?
Comments (10)@clinresga: "We've had a composite 20+ year experience using Thermador gas cooktops. Yes, they are older, but they are in many ways still similar to, and related to the current models." You have no way to know whether new and 20-year-old models are similar in design or construction. "By your logic, any request for opinions on appliances are only useful to you if they relate to the current model. Of course, the flaw in your logic is that these owners will by definition have only had their units for a matter of months, not much time to understand the ins and outs/pros and cons." False. Many appliance models have long lifetimes and hundreds or even thousands of reviews of current models -- including those purchased that were purchased a number of years ago -- are often available on websites such as Home Depot or Best Buy. Consumer Reports...relies on member reports of their experiences with their devices going back many years. False. Predicted brand reliability icons are based on estimated problem rates for newly purchased gas cooktops, not under service contract, within the first five years of ownership. In 2019 CR published brand reliability estimates by product category based on data from the previous 10 years. "On one hand, experience with older devices may not translate to newer ones." Correct. Newer appliances may not even be manufactured by the same company as older ones. For example, Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau are all brands of BSH Group. Haier manufactures appliances under various GE brands (GE, Profile, Cafe, Monogram)....See MoreKitchen Aid or GE Cafe Commercial Style 48 Gas Cooktop/Rangetop
