Comments (22)Can you look upon the canyon as an investment? A place to go in those times when you don't need snowshoes to get in and out of it? But still know it's there for when you can? If you don't need the liquidity of a bank, it's still your asset and when you no longer need it, your children can keep it........or turn it back into money when you're not around to grieve the loss. We have some beautiful country here too. Not the type of beauty you have there, but still beautiful and wild in a different way. When you've lived a good part of your life in those surroundings, it seeps into your blood and finds its way to your heart and becomes part of who you are. Even if you live in the heart of a city, it's still there....See MoreExposed to asbestos under carpet padding!! Now what???
Comments (34)If you think you’ve been exposed to asbestos, here’s what you should do. https://www.heatingair.org/ Consult a doctor. Talk to your doctor if you think you’ve been exposed to asbestos. They can help you determine your risk of developing an asbestos-related disease. “The good news is that one-off, limited exposure to asbestos is typically harmless short and long term. Most of the people who develop asbestos-related ilnesses were exposed to the material on a regular basis. These diseases usually take a long time to develop. Most people don’t have symptoms until 10 to 40 years after exposure, the National Cancer Institute says. If your doctor knows that you’ve been exposed to asbestos, they may monitor you for symptoms. If symptoms occur, get a diagnosis The signs of asbestos-related diseases can be similar to other health conditions. People with these diseases may have shortness of breath, chest pain and a chronic cough. Some asbestos-related diseases can also make you cough up blood or lose weight without trying to. To diagnose diseases associated with asbestos, doctors may use a variety of lung tests. Imaging tests, including chest X-rays or computerized tomography (CT) scans, can help your doctor spot changes in your lungs. Your doctor may also ask you to blow big breaths into a machine to see how well your lungs are working....See MoreWhat to do? Re. asbestos glue on old wood floor
Comments (9)Thanks for the advice. Yes, even in the small spot we have uncovered, we have an oddly shaped pine patch. So maybe this will all be a moot point. If we think it's safe, I'll test with water. I think some glues are water-soluble, and others aren't. About the pros...unfortunately, sometimes even the pros don't have all the answers. A rep from a reputable, well-known flooring store told us that vinyl has no asbestos and not to worry. Well. Vinyl can (and ours did) have an asbestos paper layer. And obviously an asbestos abatement person has a vested interest in telling us that only a professional can safely remove asbestos. I'm trying to get all the info possible so I can make an informed decision. Well...I still have a call in to our asbestos guy....See MoreIs my home now un-inhabitable due to asbestos?
Comments (4)You are fine, settle down. Even if the tiles do contain asbestos you are not in any danger. Just clean up as best you can. IF and I emphasize IF they do contain asbestos, the little bit you Might have inhaled is nothing to be concern about. All the horror stories you hear about asbestos and cancer it causes, generally is from the industry workers breathing it in Day after day after day after day after day after day, ect... There has not been one case of someone being diagnose with cancer due to a minuscule amount of asbestos. Go ahead and call your family doctor, he'll tell you the same, clean up, and stop worrying....See MoreCabot & Rowe
