Hello!
I
am a new to the forum and new to gardening and I've taken an interest in container fruit growing.
I live a USDA 10b zone,
South FL. Recently, a friend gave me a 7 gallon Nam Dac Mai mango tree as a
gift.
I
would like to grow this in a container like my other dwarf mango trees
(Carrie, and Glenn). I have those growing in fabric pots (Smart Pot)
currently because I haven't been able to find a large pot (25, 30, or 45 gallon)
that's affordable. But I've been reading that fabric pots are
beneficial as it provides aeration for the root system so I may just
leave it in those pots long term.
The questions I have is regarding the new Nam Dac Mai tree and if I should prune it and how.
The
7 gallon tree came looking very tall and thin. It has 3
small branches that has no leaves and I'm not sure if it is dead and
should be cut off or if I should leave it in case leaves will grow.
Should
I cut the top tips to encourage it to grow bushier because the tree seems
very tall and lanky for a 7 gallon pot tree. It is about 8 ft tall.
Does
anyone have any experience with growing mango trees or any trees on fabric
pots? How well does it do long term or is this just a temporary growing
container??
Thanks! Any advice would be appreciated.
I am attaching some pictures of the Nam Dac Mai tree.
