Yes, they are quite a popular plant, and there's quite a few different ones around. Very easy to grow and don't take much looking after. They were on my place when I bought it and have been spreading. Not a problem though, they don't spread fast. I don't do anything to look after them, not even water them during our long dry season. They flower during the coolest nights of the year, around the same time as the Dracaenas.

Funny story about "snake plant" Had a patch on the property edge and they put in a gas line accross it .Completely decimating the whole south end . They told me they would save the plants BUT when I came home the only ones they had saved were the SP. They thought all the others were "weeds" lol They had them hung in neat rows all along the fence I disposed of all of them and started over . They are still popping up 25 years later

have often wondered if the tubers are edible?? They look a lot like carrots ,have never been brave enough to try them. I would be suspicious as nothing else ever eats them animal ,bird or bug . gary

A wise move to not eat them. I've seen them around 40 year abandoned homesteads still thriving and not the slightest sign of damage from any leaf eating predator. And digging them up, the rhizomes are likewise untouched. Nature is too scared to nibble them. They are great survivors.

There are some very attractive hybrids and they do have a very compact growth habit and extremely hardy. have seen them growing in quart containers for years actually breaking the pots lol May put some of those in my "Jungle grotto" area confined to a pot of course lol

have you ever had seeds sprout?? Not sure about the risks of that. gary

Never noticed any seed on mine. But when I've looked, at night, there never seem to be any pollinators around, despite their strong fragrance. That makes them easier to control. The clumps slowly get wider but no seedlings coming up randomly over a wide area. I put some in my rainforest garden but they seem to grow shorter. It is much shadier there, and they get a lot more water all year long.

I have 3 different ones but by far the greatest numbers are of this one which I believe is the common S. trifasciata.

I have a small one, called birds nest, but it's doing poorly.

They need to be kept a bit on the dry side, and in strong light. And they seem to do quite well without a lot of fertiliser. One of the plants that is killed more often by kindness than by neglect.
