Shee, I am much older than you (59) and cannot get my recipes organized either. I have an old metal index box full of hand written or typed recipes people have shared over the years, and drawer full, a drawer full, etc. Many are folded pieces of paper. Since you don't cook a lot or don't like to cook, if I were you I could get once nice box and recipe cards and hand write them. I bought my DD and DIL a Longaberger recipe box and the Longaberger cards. I went ahead and bought the liner for it and an extra pack of recipe cards. If you get the large one, it will hold a lot of recipes. It makes a lovely little accessory for your countertop, or if you don't like "stuff" on your counters, it takes up very little room in the cabinet. I see that it is being retired soon. Better get myself one - I am so bad to buy for others, and not spend money on myself! I use the same old faithful recipes most of the time, so this box should hold all the favorites. I am sure you can also find something similar at a much better price in the home stores. I also have lots of cookbooks. My favorite cookbooks are those sold by local clubs, organizations, churches, schools, etc as fundraisers. Living in a small town, I know most of the people who have recipes published in these books. My favorite is one compiled by the local Woman's Club in the seventies and my favorite recipes are those submitted by wonderful old ladies, most of whom are gone. My butterscotch pie recipe is from a little old lady I knew as a teenager - it calls for butter the size of a walnut. Was probably passed down to her as well. I totally second (or is it third?) 1st dibs -- got some great lighting from them as well as a beautiful 18th c. bureau and two 18th c. semainiers. I also am fond of Vivre -- my all-time favorite coasters I found there. (no longer available, otherwise I'd link them) And I lovelovelove Ruzzetti & Gow for bibelots -- I find lots of gifts (to give) there, as well as at Etsy. I also like Source Perrier (which was already mentioned above), although I think they are reasonably priced. I've been really impressed with the quality of everything I've purchased there. I'm not a big clothes shopper (girlfriends of mine seem to live to go to Neiman's -- pas moi!), but get me going on stuff for the house and I'm in danger. Ouch!

I am like OldFixer - I have recipes on index cards, printed off from my printer, in folders, binders, etc.! I am so thankful for Pinterest now and have recipes saved on that board in categories. But many years ago before Pinterest I decided that it was too time consuming to type out all my recipes to do an on-line cookbook, so I just sorted the newspaper clipping, written recipes, etc. by category and put them in a large 10 x 13-inch and just wrote the category on the envelope - they are stored in a file cabinet. So if I want a particular "zucchini" recipe, I only have to search that envelope. Appetizers, salads, crock pot, meat dishes, rhubarb recipes, vegetables, etc. But if I am having a holiday dinner such as Thanksgiving, I started a 3-ring binder and put all the recipes I have ever used for that holiday dinner whether it be appetizers, the turkey, side dishes and desserts, and then add a page with the year and menu we had. I use page protectors in that binder and refer to it every year.

Joann: Thank you for the design and all of the example pics. You and your DH are really very talented. Did either or you ever do this work professionally or is it a hobby? Thank you for highlighting all of the architectural details. That is exactly what I need to see. DH and I were debating about this glass as the side panels are quite narrow so your pics are very helpful to visualize the whole effect. I should mention here that this is not a fully custom shop. We basically get to pick different door/cabinet styles, wood species/stain/hardware, height/width, drawers and component configuration so I may not be able to order some of the lovely design details you incorporated, though I will bring in the pics and inquire about it on Sat. I did notice the bottom doors on the console are not full overly which it looks like you designed for the sides. I'm going to guess my top option will not be full overlay so we'll see. Also, my hinges are not the euro style on bottom and stick out the sides. Wouldn't they need to match? As the TV is 50" wide, I was thinking of having the center opening be 51". Then in the vertical direction with the TV height at 31" I was thinking we should add a bit of beathing room--say about 3" extra on top so the TV box would then be 51"W x 34"H. I think I'll check the TV specs to see any ventillation requirements, though I know DH wants some holes in the back for cables, etc. I notice hoosiergirl's TV is very tightly set into the built-in. I'll let you know what they come up with when we go in over the weekend.
