Comments (29)I wouldnt recommend plastic unless you can assure its 100% dry. to much moisture in the crown will cause fungus and rot. once it gets to big for that your going to have to make a little box greenhouse around it for the winter. unless you go with a meedle or a windmill or somthing it will have to have some protection at some point..unless global warming takes over...See MoreMule palm vs Pindo Palm (hardiness)
Comments (3)Pindo is hardier, but probably only by about 4 degrees or so. Mules grow faster, so they can recover from damage much more quickly. They also look a lot more tropical than Pindos. Comments (4)I would look under the pot to see if the roots are coming out of the drain holes. If they are, grab hold of the trunk and pull the entire plant out of the pot to see if they are root bound. If they are, then you know its time to repot. I have 2 that are about 2.5 feet tall with 8-10" trunks that are 3" thick at the base, and their pots are no where near 12x12. They grew like crazy last summer. If you do repot, it might be a good idea to mix in some dried up leaves for compost and fertilization. I did that when I first potted mine, and I think that's why they grew so nicely....See MoreMy new Royal Palm Pics!!! (Jacksonville, FL)
