What's wrong with my plumeria?

Hi. Do you know what's wrong with this plant? It started growing leaves but they went black and fell off.

Spider mites are having a heyday eating the new growth so the plant shut down. I use the garden hose to spray off any bugs and eggs then treat with a neem, spinosad, or 3 in 1 product

It looks like it may be a seedling?

It's 3 years old. How can you tell it is spider mites? Is it because of the webs? I am not sure I have spider mites this year on my plants, but I sure have a lot of tiny spiders. Can they cause this? I thought they were harmless.

I agree. I wouldn't really worry about it they're very hardy plants. I have a plant thats trunk is ripped in half and it still fine. it's flowering at the moment. Yours just really looks like sunburn. When they are sunburnt the trunk tends to split and turn into a brown color.

Sometimes cuttings do get a bit soft before they root...especially if they've been trying to root for many months. I had a 9" hot pink cutting I took myself which started to get soft. When this happens, I remove it from full sun. I figure why dessicate it even more? I just kept the rooting medium mostly dry, continued to mist the top, and lo and behold, it rooted. The stem is starting to firm up slowly. That said, a soft cutting could also mean stem rot from too much moisture in the rooting medium. I would have used one part cactus mix to one part perlite, then create a depression in the potting mix and add pure perlite, use Rootone on the cutting, set the cutting in that. The perlite keeps constant moisture off the cutting. Some cuttings don't need such careful treatment, but some do!

I am sure there are raccoon, possum & rat roaming around in our back yard at night but why just the same Plumeria and not the other ones. We have close to 10 Plumeria in our yard.

What zone are you in? If your in a cooler USDA zone it could be that it's just going dormant. How often are you watering? Are you fertilizing at al It could be that the leaves are burnt from too much fertilizer. Hope that this helps. I know other growers will be here to help you. This plant is about 60 cm tall. I have two others at the same age and I think are doing ok. I don't know what went wrong with this one. If it's the spiders it must be really sensitive because the spiders went also at the others.

To an older plant which has more leaves they are as with many things in small quantities spider mites are generally harmless. Some plants for whatever reason may not be impacted as much as others. I have had Plumeria next to each other and one is infested with spider mites and the other has nothing.

You can see in your picture just above the one current leaf the spider mite web, a light color speck, and the look of the damage done is telltale. I hope that helps you.
