My bath remodel is finished!!! Lots of pictures - Cross post
Comments (10)Thanks, for the compliments! The tile is 17 1/2" x 17 1/2 " Cinnabar Cairo GL Porcelain, which was only about $3 a sq ft. The grout is grey, I chose a darker color, about the same color as the tile so it wouldn't show dirt easily but it didn't turn out very dark once I put it down. It is a little darker than the pics show but still not that dark. I am hoping that it will darken up a little over time since DH had to finish sanding the drywall after the tile was installed. I have mopped it but maybe the drywall dust is still in the grout??? I haven't sealed the grout yet maybe that will make it darken up a little also? Anyway we are very pleased over all with the way everything turned out. Terri...See MoreCross post from home decorating- porch columns
Comments (20)Here are the new Permacast porch columns, installed this afternoon. I had ordered them on Aug. 13th, and waited and waited and then told they were on a two week back order. Finally they came in and then waited a week for the lumber yard to deliver them to my house. Called contractor twice but he never returned my calls. I found out this morning that he had been on vacation in Colorado! Good thing he called, I was going to give him the rest of this week and then I was finding someone else. ha. I think the columns look great. NO pitts, NO cracks, No seams. I was going to hire a painter but since they look so good and contractor didn't even recommend sanding, I'm going to do it myself. The only thing is they didn't countersink the screws that went in under the caps. Some were sunk better than others but he said he was afraid to tighten too much for fear the material would crack. I suppose I can fill them over with a bit of caulk before I paint. Probably be the only person who notices. Anyway thought I'd post an update. So far, I'd recommend this product to others. However, we'll see after painting how well the paint holds up to weather, ect. Thanks for all the input while I made my decision....See Moreshould there be caulk ? are these cracks normal?
Comments (17)You have bigger issues here with visible hardie board that is now sitting in a mud bed and going to be a serious wicking issue. Seams are not taped/thinset. Very novice errors and not suprising based on your other issues. You dont have A professional tiler on your project im afraid. likely more errors we cant see, Simply put, in the Pro tile world its already A full tearout....See MoreNormal cracks from settling or structural issue?
Comments (8)The cause of our structional damage was due to the contractor bringing in fill dirt and not compressing it. He smoothed out the dirt and built the house. Within a few years the dirt settled and half the house went with it. The piers (for support) he installed under the concrete slab did not go to solid ground. They fell out like toothpicks when the plumber dug through the side of the house. When we were sodding the backyard the guy said we had a leak coming from bottom of house. We tore off wallpaper near sink in master bath and there was no leak but pipes were starting to pull apart. I had an engineer (not structional) from work come out to get his advice. He said worse case scenario....every pipe under your bathroom floor is broken. Sadly he was right. It cost about 40,000 to get all the issues fixed. Nobody took responsibility. The had to pour grout underneath the house to fill the void and all pipes had to be repaired. Look OP, your situation could be entirely different than ours. You obviously are having settling but in order to see if it's minor or not get a structional engineer to assess your house....See MoreJenna Brown
