Surprised With The Bloom Today

I didn't go out at first this morning, don't really know why, but I had a lot more bloom than I expected when I did go out.

Catastrophe Waitress was hanging out with Neon Flamingo again...gorgeous pair!

I had already had three days of beautiful clumps of Carolina Sugar Daddy so didn't expect another, but there was another:

and close to it, is Longlesson's Liberty Bell:

El Desperado has been its usual blooming self:

And Salty Skipper is a jewel:

Golly Galore:

I have a Paul Owens Seedling that has survived several "decreasing size of garden" forays...I think it will be safe anyway because it is another good bloomer, and I love the bloom:

Truly Angelic resumed more normal color today

Isle of Patmos is another one that gives many beautiful clumps:

It isn't peak anymore by any means, but still a satisfying amount of bloom:

That inflo was somewhat larger than usual, Japie, which is what prompted me to take the picture, but they usually do make a nice round ball. I'm pretty sure I got it from Tropiflora many years ago. A little fertilizer might help, but I suspect it's more a matter of the clump not having been divided in a long time. Mine's been out in full sun for years and the foliage has never gone anywhere near black, in fact it's quite green compared to some of the other recurvata types.

This is one of the plants that we inherited when we moved into this house. At first I didn't know what it was but once I found out I have been waiting for it to bloom for some time. The top of the tree almost reaches the top of the peak of the roof (single story house) so I'd say it's about 8 feet tall? Anyways, I still don't know what variety it is but I don't really care as it has pretty blooms... and as you can see from the first set of photos and the ones below there are a TON of buds left to open. I can't wait to see it in full bloom either. I will post a pic when it is though. All keepers, Jan! Congrats on the great crosses. I'm in the process of watching many of my seedlings start to bloom from one and two years ago when I first set the babies in the garden. I lost a lot of the parent names, because the "permanent" ink was NOT permanent. I learned my lesson, and from now on will use a China marker, or a more permanent sticky Brother label. Great photos! Carolina Sugar Daddy must be a bloom machine. It's so pretty, as are the clumps of Golly Galore, El Desperado, and the Paul Owens seedling. But Isle of Patmos is my favorite clump in both of the last photos.

Thank you all. I had a lot of bloom in back too which is nice. Debra, Carolina Sugar Daddy is a really good bloom machine, and actually Isle of Patmos has had at leas five clumps as nice or nicer than today's so it is okay too. Jean, I love those pinks and purples too, thank you. Thanks you Sherry. I have to make myself post single blooms when the plants are pouring out blooms...it is funny how the different zones affect bloom, isn't it? Thanks so much Ed. Love the blooms. Brad, it was anaccidental pairing since I had just gotten Neon Flamingo, but they do pair up nicely, don't they?

Carolina Sugar Daddy is really earning it's keep this year. I think it's my favorite of this batch, but hard to tell as they are all so lovely.......Maryl

Wow, nice....can't pick a favorite since they all are gorgeous. Yes, Truly Angelic is getting darker. Must be your hot temps. Golly Galore is always a show stopper. I checked my Isle Of Patmos and scapes are up so it won't be too long now. Karol sends such terrific plants. I really enjoy seeing your garden shots.

Thank you all for looking and commenting. Mantis, I haven't particularly noticed a lower bud count on CSD, but my bud count has been down overall this year...shorter scapes and generally (with some exceptions) fewer blooms.

CSD started blooming a month ago, so it has done okay. I also have many fewer reblooms than usual this year. I blame it on not having done my usual organic fertilizing this year or last...I plan to correct that next year.
