RH silk voile or sheer textured linen sheers for formal home?

Our family room has two double-wide and two regular width (though all Magnum-sized) windows. This is a forma room that will eventually have pinch pleat traverse custom drapes once I can manage to decide on a color. For now I'd like to put sheers up, which will be permanent on a double rod. Custom sheers for these windows are much more than I'd like to spend and I'd rather put that money into the drapes themselves. So, I have samples of RH silk voile and textured linen sheers, both of which are nice. But, I'm not sure which is most appropriate for my period revival Georgian style house. I want to avoid anything remotely contemporary in feel. Thanks so much.

I don't see silk voile on the website. Is it the silk organza? I don't think you want textured linen. Your house is a strict revival and your furniture is period, so I think this indicates a refined sheer.

It depends upon the furniture. If you are using leather for sofas I would choose textured linen. If your sofas are velvet, I'd use the voile.

I put up sheers on a white rod in my bedroom and they made me love my linen Duette Architella Blinds since they softened the look and made them not clash with my deep cream walls. Alrighty... I have been to JC Penny's (and a dz other stores) and am having trouble finding the right shade of grey. BUT- I have had no trouble finding blues!!!!! Would it be possible to bring blue into this room with window treatments and maybe a rug? These WT are from JC Penny's... they are not the right length, I just brought them home for color. It's a blue/grey... WDYT? Wide, just so you can see the color. and here they are more "closed" which is how I would hang them. I'm a little concerned they look "random"... like, where did I get the blue from? Thoughts? Also- we got our triple dresser. And *shudder* we got a new TV. We are not a big TV family (in fact, we just went from 1 TV to 2) but I like to watch the news as I get ready.... I know, I know... many of you are cringing. So am I. Until I get to watch the Today Show in the morning... I am feeling much more informed! ;) It's a beast. I also got a cute little (faux) orchid on clearence at Target. WDYT? How else do I decorate this wall (this is opposite the bed.)

That does look really nice. I'm chiming in because I have a similar problem and am also considering both white/off-white cafes and ceiling-height panels. I like Country Curtains Hemstitch Tiers' crisp look and was thinking of those for the kitchen and carrying them on into the sitting room, which has an enclosed-porch look. Unfortunately, on trial they look too much like I cut up bedsheets. Like yours, the room is simple drywall with ceiling fan, and smooth wood floor; and, although the white works here, what I really need is texture. With my budget and looong expanses of windows, sheer coarse linen's with its lovely diffused light's out, and I suspect with kids it would be the same for you, but...texture. Those long panels posted by Amysrq and Squirrelhaven have it.

IF it was my room, I'd change out the bedskirt to an aqua color-to ground it more. In fact-I'd purchase a bedspread that has some design in it or a solid in a deeper color than the walls or one of the pillow colors. You could always make a 'throw from her original spread & maybe make the bedskirt from the existing spread. If the mirror is a given..maybe add some gold accents on the nightstand/dresser? Does the gold mirror exist now or are you buying one? Methinks the 3 small prints aren't in scale with the large gold mirror. I noticed a floor mirror in one pic...does she really need 2 mirrors in the room? I'd also change out the lamps on the dresser & go for 2 of the 'buffet sty;e lamps. They'd add some height to that side of the room. Also-consider perhaps adding swag lights over each nightstand, instead of table lamps. I seem to think 3 larger prints (in the pretty colors you've chose) or even a wallhanging (on a pole that matches her nightstands) above the headboard would add some nice drama to the room...maybe no frames at all? A pretty tall floor plant in a big ceramic pot in one of the room's colors-placed in the window corner would breathe some life into the room. Yea on the crown molding! As for the headboard..I'd probably change it out for a taller one that matches her dresser & bureau. Just another opinion. Lastly-maybe think about losing the valances and get the nice woven blinds then hang drapery panels on each side-in one of the room's colors. Whatever your selections....your mom will be blown away when she returns home! Way to go!

Sorry, typed voile instead of organza. Is that ok? Thanks to both of you. Sofas are red velvet, the other furniture in the room (so far) is inlaid mahogany and all lighting is brass.

In that case I would use organza, white or off white, depending upon the color of the eventual pinch pleat curtains.

Oh darn, I wasn't even thinking that the sheer color needed to coordinate with the curtain color. That obviously makes sense, though it means I can't do them now since I'm nowhere near ready to commit to a color, fabric or pattern. This is so hard. Thanks for the help.

It looks like they are on sale, so you may want to get both white and ecru. (I am all about contingencies.)

Only the white sample arrived and, at least in the evening, it appears to be fine with the woodwork. I'll look at the ivory and compare them when it comes.

Looks like the white works best. Now the question is which width panels to order. Two of the windows in the room are 47" wide and two are 89" wide. It comes in 50" wide and 100" wide. Does this width need to be coordinated with the drapery panels that will someday go on the traverse rod in front of it? I want to order now to take advantage of the Friends and Family sale and start putting this room together since it's looking somewhat forgotten and unfinished. Thanks.
