Sheigh, I'm afraid to tell you those commercial "cactus soil" you pick up from regular big box stores are no different than your every other regular soil that you use. They are highly composed of peat in the mix, which are not porous enough for succulents and cacti.

Your plant looks really beat up, what happened to all the leaves, did they fall on their own? Or did you pick at them?

Does your pot have holes for drainage?

Usually when you repot echeverias, they'll lose all their lower leaves, but not the middle ones like yours. Your plant might be a case of pest if they fell on their own.

When you repot, did you inspect the roots?

There are drainage holes at the bottom, and I have some rocks separating the soil from the bottom of the pot in hopes of KT draining better.

I inspected the roots when I swapped out the soil, no rotting or anything of the sort. I haven't seen any pests on it. I might be missing something.

I got it as a present, and the woman who first potted it, but a paper towel on the bottom with regular soil, and I am 100% sure I over watered it that, mixed with not direct sunlight is what made it look like that

I swapped soil, gave it a little water, and now it's in sunlight all day

Sheigh, is the mix in your pot still wet?

If you are really affirmative it's an overwatering issue, you might want to reconsider repotting it into a gritty mix. As I had previously mentioned, commercial cactus & succulent soils are no difference to regular peat soil, so even after repotting and water. It's the same situation of over-saturated soil mix all over again. You either have to wait till the mix completely dried before you water, or you switch to a porous soil such as a girtty mix which most growers here use.

If you plan to stick with that soil (not recommended) at least try using a small wooden dowel or wooden chopstick to check the moisture level inside the pot.

I had assumed my echeveria from the store was in a decent soil/perlite mix, so when it looked like it was needing water, I had watered it again. Mistake! Plant started to decline quickly so I immediately repotted it, despite it flowering.

Soil turned out to be extremely peaty (like cactus and succulent mix) and held a LOT of water. Lost a bunch of leaves, sadly.

Echeveria are forgiving on the first overwatering, but the second and third with bad soil they die very quickly.

I am completely in awe of this situation! I guess I just don't have a green thumb.

My plant's soil is dry. Again, I do have some rocks in the bottom to help with drainage so I believe that isn't a problem. I didn't water it for about a week or so, to see if it would help and left it outside. I do believe I gave it a sunburn.

How can I help that without putting it inside? Put it in the shade?? I would love to keep it inside, but I don't have a window seal or anything to that idea and so I feel like it won't get enough sunlight.

I did yesterday, but how much water should I give it? Any ideas on the correct amount?

There is nowpink where the old leaves were and the bottom leaves are becoming brown?? And soft?? Is it currently under watered??? It is actually pink everywhere a leave would come from the stem- including the top leaves

I live about 1 or so hours from the next large city. My town is quite small with no places to really buy flowers or soil for them. Especially succulent and cacti soil (I live in rural Kansas)

Am I killing it? Is there hope?

Also, I realized that the plant wasn't really snug into the soil- I could just pull it out, so I did, and I realized that I did not get the REGULAR soil that it came in all the way off of the roots. So it was stuck to it and it was damp compared to the rest of the soil.

is this a contributing factor to what is going on?? I got as much of it off as I could without harming the roots.

If you have sunburned your plant, you can put it in a shadier area for it to recover.

To check if your soil is dry inside the pot and not just the top, use a bbq skewer or thin dowel. If it is damp, your plant does not require more water.

Rocks at the bottom make drainage worse. It will likely need little water, since there are so few leaves now.

Shiegh, your plant is not dead yet, but if you don't do anything to elevate your watering situation, it probably more or less will be on it's way towards so -- you can just chuck it and consider buying a new plant and start over.

If you want to do a rescue, it will always be a big learning curve, but if you really want a solution to your soil problrm, you might want to start by ordering a small bag online here, that's where I got my gritty mix.

The prices are always on the higher side online, but for a $20 investment in a small bag of good porous soil + shipping will go a long way in keeping your plant's roots healthy before you will need to repot it again.

If you plan to go on a budget, it can be achievable but it will be a chore and you will need to do your homework and source for 1) Turface and 2) crushed gravel/grits in your zoning. Trust me, it's possible and many people in this forum has done it before.

Regarding the sunburning situation - "I feel like it won't get enough light" shouldn't be your biggest concern right now. Your top priority should work as the following:

1) Ensure the roots are healthy, and that is to establish a good watering routine in a well porous soil. -- Repot the plant into a gritty mix, give it a day or 2, and water the mix well.

2) Give it sufficient light, not direct light until the plant is recovering itself. So a windowsill with about 1-2 hours of sunlight a day works fine

3) Once you stat seeing signs of recovery.. IE new leaves growth -- you can proceed to fertilizing the plant.

On and all, Step 1 to 3 can take you up to 2-3 months for a weaken plant like yours to begin showing signs of recovery.

Remember, these are succulents not regular house plants, they are generally slow growers even if you can provide them all the optimal conditions possible. Your job now is to provide that and instill patience -- I'm looking forward to seeing your plant come back in leaps and bound.
