I've seen it in stores recently. According to the P&G website, Cheer powder is still being made.

Although it's been around for decades it's not the same formula as it was initially. All of the products have been refined and reformulated over the years. Every detergent manufacturer is trying to compete with the big dog that starts with a "T" but nobody has been able to knock them off. The whale in the pond gets bigger and bigger.

Powders have declined in sales for a long time. People like liquids better. To me it doesn't make much difference except that powder will clump up so much that it's annoying to deal with breaking up the rocks. I've watched the powder shelf space decrease more and more over the years. Now the fad is the "pods", which I have to admit, I like.

Retailers have to have product turns to justify giving shelf space to something. They'll discontinue something that doesn't turn often enough which makes sense. Walmart is extremely sensitive about this and make frequent changes to items. If it doesn't turn quickly enough, it's out the door fast.

Out of curiosity, I checked and it's available in the Malwarts around here. If you want and since you shop there, you can order it online and have it shipped to your store. A little inconvenient but no shipping charge as with other online sources. And it's shipped to you free on a $50 order if that's attractive to you.

I don't like liquid detergent. It creates a build-up in my front load washer. I don't want a 'pod' because I don't want the disolved 'container' coating my washer either -- and because I don't need a ton of product in my front loader. (One size does not fit all.) I use Tide powder -- teeny amounts -- but I agree that it can be hard to find.

I used Cheer powder for many years, until Costco quit stocking it - I buy laundry detergent in bulk and haven't purchased from other than Costco in a very long time. The last few years I've bought Tide HE powder there for my Maytag Bravo, it works just fine and I do have some heavily soiled laundry. I'm using half per wash - or less - the amount suggested on the box, a pre-measured soap pod would never be acceptable for me.

Dark things are washed in Woolite for darks, also in a Costco jug. So while I do use a liquid in that application, I really don't like liquids for most laundry in my washer. My mom uses nothing else and usually cold water. I spent a couple of hours cleaning her machine, there was a build up of soap residue throughout the entire washer, I don't know how she was lifting something white and wet out of it without getting the garment or sheet dirty again. While my nephew had her distracted with a yard project outside, after my scrubbing, I ran an Affresh tablet on a straight hot cycle through her vintage machine....it looks almost new again so the grungy look wasn't age and wear, it was soap buildup ;)

I have been using liquid Tide in my front loader for almost 10 years. I use white vinegar in the softener dispenser. I have not noticed any soap build up in my machine but it is in my unfinished poorly lit basement. I will have to grab a flashlight and make a trip down the stairs to check.

Just returned from the basement. The stainless steel interior of my front loader looks as shiny as when it was new. Maybe the vinegar keeps the film off. I only use about 2 tablespoons of detergent per load. An appliance repair friend told me not to use more. I wash most things in cold water.

I used Cheer for a long time too, prefer the unscented. I usually get ours in bulk at Sam's. Costco has slowly been changing their inventory to the Tide (which burns our skin) and the Kirkland brands. I don't usually mind Kirkland brand but their laundry detergent over suds and doesn't clean as well. Those pods are the BiGGEST rip off and the manufacturers new invention to sell less at a higher cost. I'll make my own detergent before I switch to those.

lukki, I've had very few complaints about Kirkland label products. But my BIL changed laundry products with their septic tank and gave me one of those 5 gallon (?) buckets of Kirkland laundry he wasn't going to use. It wasn't getting DH's work clothes clean. I asked our tech if he wanted it and he did so it didn't go to waste but I didn't like it well enough to use it.

Whatever product I'm using though I want the clothes rinsed free of product with none of it remaining in the fabric to be in contact with skin - even if that means setting my washer to add an extra rinse at the end.

I use TIde Free HE which, for me, can be hard to find and darned expensive so I load up when it's on sale and always use the extra rinse. Our house, due to eye sensitivities, is a scent-free zone.

In my front loader I routinely use 1/8 cup of Tide Free granular detergent (not HE); white vinegar in the 'softener' dispenser; second rinse cycle. My Frigidaire takes a little more than one hour to complete this cycle, and my laundry is spun quite free of water before it goes into the dryer.

I really notice the difference when I use the top loader at our condo. The dryer runs much longer due to more water left in the wash.

I don't have very many complaints in regards to Kirklands either, it was a bummer when the liquid didn't work. We have well water which is very hard so I use the extra rinse cycle often. I need to run some vinegar through too...thank you to who ever mentioned that, it was a nice reminder. Our front loaders are fairly old from when they first came out (whirlpool / kenmore) so I never use the amount of soap it asks for because they're all even more concentrated now but I prefer liquid over powder.

We're a scent free environment too, we're so sensitive I don't even use air fresheners, have just original lysol spray in the bathrooms.

I don't buy detergent, I make our own. But I saw a survey where their laundry detergent and toilet paper were the 2 most popular things purchased.

All Free and Clear HE user in my Whirlpool Duets. Use liquid only and clean the machine frequently. I recently tried Persil Sensitive liquid and really like it! It has a scent but it's very subtle. It cleans well with just a little bit of detergent and it rinsed clean. I have asthma triggered by scents but this is nice. The regular Persil scent is strong! Persil makes a powder but I've not tried it. Found out about Persil over on the Laundry forum.

Dees where is that sold? I've never heard of it.

Wal-Mart has an exclusive deal with Persil....unfortunately. hate WM. Cost per load is about the same as other brands but I think it cleans better. Give it a try!! Or go to the Laundry forum and read what they have to say about it....You'd think it was the best thing since sliced bread!

Rhizo, I didn't know that! I use the Persil ProClean Liquid Sensitive Skin formula. I sniffed it at the store and it has a scent but that dissipates in the wash. The reviews on Amazon for this product are not for the product. What the Laundry forum raves about is the ProClean Pearls (or any of the pearls). I prefer liquid over powder.

Since my interest and query was primarily concerning CHEER Powder, I'll continue with that.

I have checked at several local stores, and haven't found any. Actually, I rarely shop at WalMart, but was there to pick up some film I had developed. I have emailed p&g and asked point blank if they have stopped making CHEER Powdered detergent. I have not received a reply. Something else I find interesting is that on each picture I see of a box of the powdered, the writing is in Spanish.

I have found the best place to find the best deal is at Amazon. 80 loads–112 oz. $26.50, free shipping for orders over $35.00. CHEER and a couple pairs of socks. Can't beat that.
