Rain, Rain, Go away.....
Comments (3)I managed to get a few things planted yesterday. Today it's pouring rain on and off, causing us to remain in our car, along with others, at one nursery until it ebbed. Die-hard gardeners weren't going to let some water keep them away. ha. Everyone was mowing yesterday too while I planted. I should have gone back out even tho it was late and mowed too because now it's soaking out there and the grass is high. It does make weeding easier in most places, gotta watch plant roots don't come up with them too though....See MoreRain, Rain, Go Away
Comments (6)So sorry about the floods in the Mid-west. When I lived back there we had a creek behind our home and on those heavy rain times, I stayed up all night watching the level of the water in the street. No joy. We be wishin' for rain here on the Left Coast. Our "rainy" season which goes by the name Winter is just about over and I think we got about 3" total since last November. Not good for our underground aquifer. Hopefully there is enough water in the reservoirs, as the Siera Mountains have a low snowpack this year. I'll be a stinky Gramma w/o showers, but my hostas will NOT suffer!!!! -Babka...See MoreRain, Rain Go Away...
Comments (8)We have been enjoying milder temps here. Milder to us is anything above freezing but we have been in the 40's and it did rain here last night. A lot of snow has melted but we still have areas where it will be at least a month before it melts all the way down. I can now see the ground in some spots and some of my plant markers. However, it is suppose to be a rainy weekend and may have some snow showers mixed in. At least the furnace isn't running 24 hours a day as the sun really makes a difference. A slow melt is better than a complete washout. Take it easy with the weeding and don't over do it. Comments (35)Are you planning to spray the whole yard with atrazine, or just spot spray? I would spot spray each & every suspected Crabgrass head, but I would not broadcast a spray across the entire yard--That's a bit wasteful & atrazine is tough stuff. It's really not too late on the preM this year, all this rain & cool weather has kept them behind schedule in my yard. The atrazine should be used in combination with a good preM to keep the heads from coming back anyway. I use dimension & it actually kills baby Crabgrass up to a single tiller, so it can be applied later than the others on the market. Late app plus late growth means you're not too late for preM & it will make a world of difference. I also recommend a product called bonide Sedge ender, which targets Crabgrass & nutsedge specifically, including a preM already mixed in. Ace has both these products, but the big box stores usually only carry fast acting stuff to keep you coming back....See Moreelisa_z5
