I need 3ft HDMI cable advice

i will connect my monitor to my new computer. I tried this on my own at Amazon and ended up with the wrong one.

Is it possible for someone to go to Amazon and find a cable with an HDMI plug on each end of a 3ft cable? I would be so grateful.

Because I have had multi level spinal stenosis surgery. I shop regularly at Amazon and they are fast. I'm not!! This problem is new to me. Thanks

@ace_tx From what I've read a lot of people are suggesting what you said, so I'm thinking that would be a good idea.... can you just help me understand it a bit more? Would I run all four of those wires to where the tv would be in the room? or only 1 rg6 quad coax and 1 6pr cat5e/6 lines to where the tv and they other 2 would be at a different location in the room? (Then of course all those wires would run to the central location, right, and plug into what?, I'm not sure - guess I can figure that out later) Are there any other cables I should have behind my TV in the main viewing area (assuming my dvd player and stuff are in a separate cabinet)? THANKS!

The method the second poster suggested should work fine since HDMI cables support 5.1 digital dolby sound just like the optical cables . Another way to go is an optical (also called TOS Link) cable splitter as in the link below . This method would allow sound from the cable/satellite box , such as listening to music channels or possibly a sports talk channel and the like with the tv off - saving power . That's the beauty of electronic hookups as there's almost always more than one way to go . If you don't already have HDMI cables get them online and not from the stores where they're overpriced - Monster Cable being the absolute worst ! I bought 4 six foot HDMI cables from amazon.com for 20 bucks total and they work just fine . Here is a link that might be useful: Optical Cable Splitter

My guess would be that the 'inwall' cable has a tougher outer protective layer in order to survive the stress of installation. From WIKIPEDIA: Cable length The HDMI specification does not define a maximum cable length. As with all cables, signal attenuation becomes too high at a certain length. Instead, HDMI specifies a minimum performance standard. Any cable meeting that specification is compliant. Different construction quality and materials will enable cables of different lengths. In addition, higher performance requirements must be met to support video formats with higher resolutions and/or frame rates than the standard HDTV formats. The signal attenuation and intersymbol interference caused by the cables can be compensated by using Adaptive Equalization. HDMI 1.3 defined two categories of cables: Category 1 (standard or HDTV) and Category 2 (high-speed or greater than HDTV) to reduce the confusion about which cables support which video formats. Using 28 AWG, a cable of about 5 metres (~16 ft) can be manufactured easily and inexpensively to Category 1 specifications. Higher-quality construction (24 AWG, tighter construction tolerances, etc.) can reach lengths of 12 to 15 metres (~39 to 49 ft). In addition, active cables (fiber optic or dual Cat-5 cables instead of standard copper) can be used to extend HDMI to 100 metres or more. Some companies also offer amplifiers, equalizers and repeaters that can string several standard (non-active) HDMI cables together.

Here's the technically uninformed opinion of a lifelong owner of AV equipment who's set up a lot of stuff in a lot of places (me!). Based on experience, not education - HDMI cables carry digital signals. Digital anything is binary - either it's there or it's not. A digital video signal that's incomplete will shudder, have pixellations, will stop to cache, or stop altogether. A disturbed digital audio signal will have sonic equivalents - will shudder, have gaps, or stop. I grew up in an analog world, as most other people aged 40+ did. An analog signal path can add or subtract what's being transmitted. Not so digital. But even a digital "system" may have analog parts- wires running to speakers from an amplifier are an example. For speaker wires, use large gauge (smaller number) wire. Typical problems of HDMI cables are breaks at the connectors. So if it's working, it's fine. I buy cheap ones too, they work as well as ones costing 10 times as much. Either the complete signal is transmitted or it's not, when it's not, there's no ambiguity. Then the task is to find out why.

Mike, I have ordered these and have not recv'd and the HDMI plug does not look like my LCD monitor or new HP

What I am trying to connect is

I own an LCD monitor.Acer S231HL

I bought from Costco HP Envy 700-410xt DT (Memphis-b) PC

Not sure what the problem is. In both photos, I see DVI female sockets (white with lots of holes) and next to them in each photo is an HDMI socket. Take your pick, you need a cable with a male connection of your chosen type (DVI or HDMI) on each end, either will work fine.

Thank you for your reply, Snidely. Yesterday I had a three way conversation with HP and Costco concierge service. They said HDMI adaptor over and over .I need to make my LCD monitor work and was previously using VGA cables to my last computer. I finally realized that they didn't mean a small plastic adapter like you would use in a socket they meant cables.

I need a cable with male HDMI ends. I picked the same one from Amazon as Mike_GW. My HDMI slots look more like a USB inside and shape outside has slanted sides. I know nothing about using DVI. I was only given a packing list. I will try and take a picture of it

There's nothing to know, you just plug in both ends of whichever one of the two cable types you get. The computer should discover the monitor on its own with no intervention from you.

If you want to water flowers in a pot on your porch, do you use a
pitcher, a large glass or watering can? It doesn't matter. Same here.

They worked!! Me of little faith. Thanks all. This started when I asked the question on Amazon and a comment came back I was buying the wrong cables.
