June shows on PBS

I am looking forward to 4 new shows on PBS. On June 21 these three will air in our area: The Crimson Field, Poldark, Last Tango in Halifax. On June 24th, look for First Peoples. Summer TV can be so barren, and these shows certainly perk it up for me. Thank goodness my sister sent me an alert, which I am sharing with you.

Thanks! Do you know this is the third season of Last Tango in Halifax? I really like this show.

WTTW in Chicago is well into what DH calls its interminable beg-a-thon. We won't get any good programming until that's over. He and I just watched the last three episodes of Foyle's War on a DVD from our library. That's now kaput, over, not renewed by the Brits who made the series -- despite huge audiences for the show in the UK and the US.

My handy-dandy little herb garden. I bought a 'living lettuce' that comes in a plastic dome container with roots. I thought I should be able to plant the root end with leaves attached, and voila, a head of lettuce for us to enjoy.

Pompeii is AWESOME. Visiting it and Herculaneum permanently and dramatically changed my understanding and conceptions of "ancient" peoples and their lives. Romans had such an advanced civilization (the positives in obvious and well known ways on display in these locations, without forgetting the negatives that were present in their society too in obvious and well known ways) . Their lives and surroundings (also visible in Rome, of course) had so many engineering and public works features two thousand years ago that are recognizable today as almost contemporary and modern in comparison to the abject poverty and deprivation that prevailed in so much of Europe for most of the medieval and later periods more than 1000 years later. And that remain lacking in many parts of the world today.

Our lilacs were in full bloom back in March. Interesting how much difference there is in the climates from one place to another, but the lilacs are beautiful no matter where they are blooming.

New episodes of Father Brown and DCI Banks are now on PBS in CA.

Thanks for the reminder. I just set my DVR to record Poldark. I remember watching the original series years ago, and I loved it.

you mean it's a remake of poldark? that was about the sexiest show I had ever seen...wonder if the new version will be as good?

Yes, it's a remake. And Robin Ellis, who was the original Poldark, has a role in it. I think he plays the minister. The remake was a huge hit in England.

I think I might try Poldark. I tried to find Call the Midwife on Amazon Prime the other night as I never saw any of the first seasons, and where it used to be "free", now it is not. Hmnnn.

And thank you so much, sheilajoyce, for the update. I just looked at my PBS' station calendar and put these shows on my calendar to watch. I also noted that on Sunday, June 21st, they are starting to show only a few episodes of "Tales From the Royal Wardrobe," which sounds as if it will be very good.
